Red The Clay Thread 2013

On to the clay season...

Ana has a total of 445 points to defend. Scheduled to play Stuttgart, Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros, plus Fed Cup vs Germany.

Mental Strength is an underrated ability, it sets champions apart

Making mistakes is human, repeating them is dumb.

What I write is my opinion, and my opinion only.

Thanks, Izzy, a QF at RG (500 points) should be the goal.

Should be.. A strong clay season is the only way to save this year.

But.. she will have a low seeding.. meaning facing better players earlier.. and we have seen she has shown herself to be inept against top players.

She won't even be seeded in Madrid..

Ana needs to improve her ranking before RG. Otherwise, No. 17 ranking means Ana could face Serena, Maria, Vika or Aga/Li at round of 16, that's a tall order.

One match at a time, one tournament at a time, Ana needs to do it.

We all know she has the tools but she needs to deliver the results.

Re: Red The Clay Thread 2013

If Ana goes to Paris healthy, fresh and in good shape - only sky is limit for her!

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Actually.. 17 is better than 13-16 because you still have the chance to take on 5-8 for 4th round. You only need to be lucky enough to get 9-12 in 3rd round.. but then again, 3rd round would be super tough.

But same R16 thing in Paris will be happen to hers if she will back into #13-#16 rankings. That will be changed only if she reach TOP12, or if she goes on draw like #21-#24 seeded.

BTW, seeds order is not so important on red clay like on all other surfaces in last 5 seasons:
In 2012 RG only 2 of TOP4 seeds reach Quarterfinal.
In 2011 RG only 1 of TOP4 seeds reach Quarterfinal.
In 2009 RG only 2 of TOP4 seeds reach Quarterfinal.
In 2008 RG only 2 of TOP4 seeds reach Quarterfinal.

Yes, that's a good point and Ana matches up well with any of the 9-12 players.

Mathematically, Ana still can reach No. 12 before RG and that can also be one of the goals.

MM strategy never worked for Ana anyway... so its better for her to work hard during April in Gym and practice courts, somewhere in Spain.
