Re: Red The Clay Thread 2013

Oops, my mistake. In that case I think that we can say that recently she is getting better at playing 3 sets in general. Possibly it's a bit mental, maybe she is feeling fitter too. I can't always remember what day people are playing because the time zones are so different here. Plus following Ana makes me sleep at funny times so I get a bit zoned out...

These recent 3 set wins will definitely be helping to boost her confidence, subconsciously as well as consciously.

By the way, thanks again to statsmaster Kleinebiere for this tidbit:

Ana has to take points wherever she can get them, so no letting up here in Madrid, she's starting to get a feel for the surface and she needs to win whatever she can. Hopefully she can produce enough against Angelique. Good thing for Ana against Angi is that she isn't that good at attacking high balls, so Ana's bh will be less under fire than today. If Ana loops up to Angi's bh she'll probably loop high back.

She made the best of what she had today when she started making aggressive decisions on the second serve return, and also started reading Laura's swinging serve, which encouraged Laura's DF problem to rear its ugly head. At the end Laura just couldn't land a serve to save herself anymore, first or second.

By the way, I really liked Crbuja's pinocchio post in GM. I hope he doesn't mind if I quote it.
I'm sorry, but I have to correct every poster who spells it like this. In Cyrillic, it's Србија, in Latin it's Srbija. It actually means Serbia in Serbian (I hope it's not too confusing). I'm also correcting you because I know you're nice and you won't mind it.

Btw, with this win, Ana not only reached 2 consecutive QFs, but she will be (at least) up for two places on WTA - #15.

Still, I hope she can go even deeper here in Madrid. Good luck vs Kerber.

I don't mind of course, but I know it stands for Serbia, just like I know that thing that looks like POCCNA is Russia. But my keyboard isn't set up to type Cyrillic so I just type it how I see it. Do you prefer me to call him Srbija? That's easy enough to type but I might forget occasionally.

Guys I still can't believe she came back from 2-5 in the third
She is now 7-1 on clay this year too counting fed cup. How many clay wins did she get last year? Surely no more than 8?

Re: Red The Clay Thread 2013

Back to back clay tournament quarter finals are good. It's good to see Ana getting deeper into tournaments. Now it's time to add a semi-final to the list. If Ana can get control of those nerves at the big moments she will have even better results.

It's actually been a pretty good clay season so far. It must be said .

Last year she was 7-5. In 2009 she was 5-3, in 2010 she was 5-5, in 2011 she was 2-4. Let's not jinx her, of course. But if she doesn't lose the rest of her matches on clay (losing today, losing in R1 of both Rome and RG), this will be her best clay season since 2008.

Fuck it, it already is. When was the last time she reached PM quarterfinal. Yeah, we have no idea because back then there were no PM events, but tier 1.

I know Rome isn't a PM, but in my mind her semifinal there in 2010 is as good as if she makes it here.
I agree that this is the best since 08 already though, which is sad because its not really great (hopefully that changes )

It could be worse. Kerber isn't in big form, so I see chances for Ana.

Re: Red The Clay Thread 2013

ana coming back from 2:5 in the third feels like a parallel universe but hey, i think we can be satisfied or even proud of her. she didn't play great but she fought and won.

care bear next. let's hope for another win.

She made 5 pm QFs in past 4 years of their existence.
Final, q and sf at Indian Wells '09, '11 and '12, And two succesive qfs in Beijing '10 and '11.

And now she joins JJ as one of only few (dozen) players with quarterfinal slam of all Premier M+5/TierI turnaments! (She did not have a qf in Charleston while it was Tier I, but she played only once there so we will ignore this fact)
She is also 5 out of 9 in semifinals in, lets call them female Masters, it sounds better and serious. (Though if we look at Madrid as a succesor of Berlin, she won this thing already

Re: Red The Clay Thread 2013

I hope Ana fights her heart out tomorrow.. reaching the semis would actually keep her with a chance of a top 12 seeding for RG.

When was the last time Ana fought back from 2-5 down in a third set to win? I can only remember against Razzano in Sydney 2008..
