10 - Zvonareva - 3160
11 - Ana - 2910
12 - Na Li - 2740 (Still in Rome - SF)
13 - Lisicki - 2692 - Will play Strasbourg (and Birmingham for Wimbledon seedings purposes)
14 - Cibulkova - 2630 - Will play Brussels
15 - Petkovic - 2421
16 - Pennetta - 2310 - Supposed to play Strasbourg (Injured wrist)

Since Ana is playing less tournaments than her direct competition for at top 12 seed a Wimbledon, she needs to do very well at RG.
Welcome back, I enjoy reading you and Cajka even though I'm more a Maria fan than an Ana fan.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread (A look at her progress)

Post RG rankings (After Rome QFs):

9 - Kerber - 3550 - 9 (Still in Rome - SF) - Will play Brussels
10 - Zvonareva - 3160
11 - Ana - 2910
12 - Na Li - 2740 (Still in Rome - SF)
13 - Lisicki - 2692 - Will play Strasbourg (and Birmingham for Wimbledon seedings purposes)
14 - Cibulkova - 2630 - Will play Brussels
15 - Petkovic - 2421
16 - Pennetta - 2310 - Supposed to play Strasbourg (Injured wrist)

Kerber is having quite a year. She was behind Ana not so long ago, and already looks out of reach.

Edit: Kerber is 12-0 in 3 setters this year. That stat tells it all. 3 set record is so important.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread (A look at her progress)

Serena withdrew, so Na Li gets a walkover.

Seriously lucky with 2 withdrawals in that part of the draw. Ana could use some luck like this at some point.. This also means Li is past Ana for post RG rankings projections.

Will Ana play birmingham because she really needs that?

Thanks, just edited!

Good decision by Kerber. She has played a lot of tennis already.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread (A look at her progress)

WORTH TO NOTICE: If Ana beats in R32 Errani, she will for just one day virtualy comeback in Friday into WTA TOP10 for the first time since Roland Garros 2009 when expired her points from previous season title. But to back officially to TOP10 right after RG, Ana needs at least better RG result than defending champion Li Na or SF if Kerber not reach QF. Unfortunately, Na Li have open road to QF since Zvonareva w/o (there no other TOP35 player in that 1/8-MD already after 1st round!) and in-slump Pennetta and Medina is only TOP50 players in Kerber's 1/8-MD after Bartoli lose today! On other hand in Ana's 1/8-MD are current TOP3 Radwanska, current YEC-RACE TOP10 Errani and former RG Champ Kuznetsova...

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread (A look at her progress)

I really thought Ana could get back to top 10 this year.. but now I'm pretty sure she won't. I guess that's just what it is.. she is a 11-20 player..

This loss will probably drop her 1 or 2 spots in the race.. and since she isn't playing any tournament between Wimbledon and OG, and Cibulkova and Bartoli are, then it's really game over.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread (A look at her progress)

i'd still put ana in the #9 to #12 group. you noted in the other thread that ana doesn't care about ranking points but if she did she would have a more realistic schedule, the one that actually suits her current ability, and that would bring her closer to or just into the top 10. but i remember when she was an up and coming player she was always saying that ranking is not important, that she needs to improve her game and that ranking would come automatically and i guess she still thinks like that.

I wouldn't put her in that group. Ana has played 20 tournaments since teaming up with Nigel.. only 4 were QF or better (2 QF, 1 SF and 1 title), meaning 16 were early round losses. That's not what 9-12 should have as results..

Ana says she doesn't care about rankings.. but also says her goals for the season are getting back to top 10 and qualifying for Istambul, both of which are ranking dependant. Contradictory.. anyway, as it is, she won't achieve either one of her so called goals. Then what? Before was that she didn't have a coach.. now she does.. what is the excuse? She is just not adressing her issues.

Re: Ana's Ranking Thread (A look at her progress)

ana's projected ranking for the week after rg is #12 right now. yes, that can change but not by much. and i said with a more realistic schedule. she has a schedule of a solid top 10 player which she isn't as it is. any player in her situation would struggle to get better results.

and she was talking the same contradictory things about wanting to qualify for the yec and not caring about rankings but about improving her game back then as well.

Just shows she hasn't learned much..

A more realistic schedule could help.. but not by much.. she would probably tank those other tournaments, to save herself for another early round defeat at a major.
