The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

So.. I think we might have a lot of free time over the forum.. so I thought.. why not? I'll create a thread for us to pass time.. we can share here lists about Ana.. like.. The top 5 best matches... or Top 5 worst matches.. or Top 5 best points... heck, even top 5 best pictures! Whatever list is welcome.

Re: The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

So... I'll start...

Top 5 worst matches ever (from the ones I could watch):

1 - Tokyo 2009, against Safarova.
2 - AO 2010, against Dulko.
3 - USO 2009, against K. Bondarenko.
4 - USO 2008, against Coin.
5 - Miami 2007, against Shvedova.

There are more classic though.. like Toronto 2007 against Zi Yan, or RG 2009 against Azarenka (so so awful..), or Wimbledon 2008 against Zheng. There are also the ones that I could not watch, but seem very embarrssing.. like USO 2005 against Vento-Kabchi, or Cincinatti 2009 against Czink, or Bali 2006 agaisnt Olga Puchkova.

Re: The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

So you guys won't say I'm only looking at the negatives.. I'll give my Top 5 best matches (for Ana's level of play) as well:

1 - Montreal 2006, against Martina Hingis.
2 - RG 2007, against Maria Sharapova.
3 - Stuttgart 2007, against Patty Schnyder.
4 - IW 2008, against Vera Zvonareva.
5 - RG 2008, against Lucie Safarova.

Those were, for me, the matches Ana was the best technically wise. She was perfect. Then there are classic matches where maybe she wasn't perfect, but were high quality and with more at stake, like RG 2008 final and semi, AO 2008 semis. I'll write a list of my favorite ever Ana matches in another post.

Re: The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

My top 5 favorite Ana matches:

1 - RG 2008 final, against Safina.
2 - AO 2008 semi, against Hantuchova.
3 - RG 2008 semi, against JJ.
4 - Berlin 2007 final, against Kuznetsova.
5 - LA 2007 semi, against JJ.

Thrilling! Those were the matches I got more invested, had more fun, and were also high quality. The RG final for obvious reasons.. Ana's career high. There are other classics, like Ana x Vaidisova at Wimbledon 07, or Ana x Venus AO 2008.

Re: The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

I'm sorry for the lack of pictures, but the images should be enough

My favorite Ana Moments

1.Seeing her saluted by Serbia as a returning hero after RG 2008
2.Her smile when JJ gave her a warm hug at Fed Cup in Serbia
3.When she stood on the RG podium with Justine next to her(2008),giving what seemed to be a look of approval
4.Her expression of relief and vindication when she won the Linz 2008 trophy(image THAT,a GENUINE 'comeback')
5.The interview with her and Novak at the Olympics;it'd be hard to minimize how beautiful they looked together. For a moment,at least, one could dream

Re: The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

I guess her best 'losses' would be -

1. Venus at Zurich '04, could have beaten Venus in only her 3rd(?) pro event.
2. Venus at Zurich '08, poor backhand, but some great serving and FH was on fire.
3. Henin at YEC '07
4. Dementieva at Dubai '08
5. Serena at Dubai '09

Ivanovic * Kvitova * Serena

Best GS moments:
1.RG 2008
2.RG 2007
3.AO 2008
4.WI 2007
5.RG 2009 (I thought reaching R4 for the first time since RG 2008 would be a good sign, but then she got thrashed and continued to lose )

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Only list that will change this year is the top 5 worst matches.

1. Ana Ivanovic

2. Maria Kirilenko
3. Anastasija Sevastova

I agree, except for the last one. I would say number 5 would be RG 2005.

Re: The Ana Ivanovic List Thread

These are the Top Five Worst Ana Excuses or Rationalizations,in reverse order. Some of the quotes are paraphrased but the fidelity to Ana's message is spot on(commentary attached)

5."I just needed a vacation after being so busy these last couple years."----This after a 2009 season where she had about as much presence as Alfred Hitchcock in one of his 'acting roles'

4.Ana's most pathetic 'injury' excuse following a loss:"I couldn't give it my best because I started coughing a little bit during the match." 'Nuff said

3.After Brisbane 2010:"I just need to get my timing back after not playing very much for a while."---Gee,I wonder how THAT happened.Apparently,Ana is looking to CLONE herself so that she can continue to fake or exaggerate injuries and spend several weeks WAGging while still getting sufficient match play

2.When asked if she's too nice to have a top player's killer instinct:"I don't think so.Look at Steffi Graf;she was a nice person and a great champion,too."---Ummmm,Ana,comparing Steffi Graf to YOU--in terms of mental strength--is like comparing General Maximus to Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes

1.THIS one might rank as one of the worst recorded excuses in HUMAN HISTORY.Following her loss to Zheng at Beijing 2008:"My form was off because I didn't realize that I was getting tired during the match."---WTF???How can you NOT realize that you're getting tired;I don't believe that's humanly possible.I'm imagining a philanderer whose wife catches him in the act,and then he spouts out:'Oh Honey,I don't know HOW this happened.I was just daydreaming and wandering around the house aimlessly and...right out of the blue....I looked down and noticed that I was having sex with some strange woman...and then YOU walked in simultaneously." Ana's excuse is as equally credible as that second one.

You're the Queen,Ana
