Ja sam apsolutno ubeđena da mnogi novinari kopiraju tekstove i video klipove upravo sa ovog foruma, ovo je najveći forum za ženski tenis i članovi foruma često bolje iskopaju vesti od samih novinara, pogotovo ovih naših nesrećnih.
Yeah, I noticed that since Izzy's leave of absence, there are a lot fewer vitriolic articles on Ana in some Serbian media - sadly I think Izzy unwittingly contributed to that. (Can't blame her for not knowing though, since it's Serbian press and even she
didn't read all of it
Hmmmm. While I do think that Serbian "journalists" use this forum as a source, somehow I doubt that all those 150 000 views in one day are all Serbian. I think this clip just went viral, because it caught attention on the net yesterday - I myself saw it elsewhere and not on this paper's website.
However, it is ridiculous how they spin Ana's activities, even though there may be some truth in it. While I can understand that Izzy and other Ana fans obssess over Ana's distraction by off court activities, I don't think I found one
article with the same take on Jelena's off court activites. Really don't understand how Serbian journalists explain that
Ana (I'm not gonna talk/write about JJ, cause I don't care about her) is an average top 20 player now which is all right! She used to be a factor in this game few years ago, now that isn't case! We all expect that she will be top 10 player again to win slams and premier tournaments. Maybe that won't happen again who knows, but hey, being top 20 player is just fine! Gencic statement sounds like this: If you are not NO1 player anymore, if you stop playing like you used to, if you stop wining slams and biggest tournaments, you are done with tennis, go home, have babies or become a model! That is very stupid... Ana could stop playing long time ago, if she have the same opinion like Gencic!
Mmm, so what is exactly the difference between Gencic's opinion and yours?
As I said, yeah, top 20 is fine, for Bojana, for BMS, for a lot of players. Is it fine for Ana? Why doesn't she come out and say something to that extent? We know she won't.
There is clearly a different standard that Gencic uses for Ana and Jelena than the one she uses for Bojana, and there is a (good) reason for that.
The worst part is where she says that Ana will be remembered as a beauty. That's ridiculous.
So, if she wasn't a beauty she would be unknown?! The part about Bojana is pretty crazy too. Few months ago she was talking about her and she said that the future of tennis is an aggressive game, not the rallies from the base line.
I wonder what kind of tennis Gencic follows.
Really, though? How many people remember Myskina and Mima Jausovec?
What Jelena Gencic was saying is that essentially if nothing changes, and there is no reason atm to think it will, people's perception of Ana's (and Jelena's) contribution to tennis is pretty much cemented. And when Ana is concerned, I really doubt the tennis fans' perception of her is that of a great champion. It may have been had she retired right after RG '08.
However, since then, she has singlehandedly deconstructed that image, and replaced it with the image of player who is mentally weak, scattered all over the place, and is either: a) a fluke, or b) an underachiever, who could have done better.
If she does nothing else of significance till the end of her career (stays in top 20 or even top 10), I am afraid that's how she will be remembered.
