But then maybe if Zvonareva had won the points, then we would be complaining about the fact that she didn't step it up. Anyways it's gone now
Ana should have won that match. She really should. She completely imploded after missing so many opportunities to win the first set, which obviously wouldn't have happened if she had actually won it.
There was a particular set point that I still can't forgive and forget. Zvonareva served, Ana's return clipped the net and the wind pushed it to around the middle of the court.. Vera could have finished the point there, but she was careful (staying true to her pushing ways) and sent the ball back to Ana's forehand side (with the ball bouncing around the service line). Ana easily got to the ball, and Zvonareva was completely sold at the net.. anything Ana did to pass the ball to the other side would probably have been enough for her to either win the point or get in a very favorable position to win it. But she went for the most awkward shot I have ever seen.. a slice forehand that suddenly went up and up and ended up going out by much. She was pissed at herself after it, and I can totally understand.. all she had to do was hit a regular forehand.
The more I think about it and the more I believe Ana should have won it.. but she allowed everything to frustrate her, leading to more errors. It was just not meant to be I guess..
