CLAY SEASON Pre-Ana Švajnštajger Era is #Done: CAREER IS OVER.
Our beloved Anita has only won two clay titles in her whole career:
Berlin 2007 (def. Kuznetsova 3-6 6-4 7-6(4) in the final). Broke into Top 10 for the first time with this title.
This match reminds me why I became a fan of Ana, feels like an eternity ago:
2008 ROLAND GARROS (def. Safina 6-4 6-3 in the final). First GS title and rose to #1 in the world.
#1 reaching moment: SF win (def. Jankovic 6-4 3-6 6-4). I watched this very own ESPN broadcast. I have this whole video memorized.
Championship match:
Yes, only two titles. But we treasure these two titles. I mean, the moments and achievements that Ana made speak for themselves.
And unlike Medina Garrigues or Smashnovas of this world, these two titles are better than 9019271517919 clay MMs.
Back to reality:
Anita has so much important and better things to do now. Many, many things have changed ever since the moments above. Priorities now inlcude being with her boo, waiting for miracles and making fitness videos. Planning the perfect wedding is CRUCIAL.
So, when she feels like picking up a racket.... This is where her team signed her up for:
Week of April 18th:
Porsche Tennis Grand Prix - Stuttgart, Germany
Category: Premier 470
Surface/Conditions: Red Clay/Indoors
Last year result: 1R FLOP to García for the 9172615183926th time.
Best result: 2014 Finalist
Week of May 2nd:
Mutua Madrid Open - Madrid, Spain
Category: Premier Mandatory
Surface/Conditions: Red Clay/Outdoors
Last year result: 3R mess loss to Suárez Navarro.
Best result: 2013 Semifinalist.
Week of May 9th:
Internazionali BNL D'Italia - Rome, Italy
Category: Premier 5
Surface/Conditions: Red Clay/Outdoors
Last year result: 1R FLOP in a shitfest to Gavrilova.
Best result: 2010/2014 Semifinalist.
Weeks of May 23rd and 3rd:
Roland Garros - Paris, France
Category: GRAND SLAM
Surface/Conditions: Red Clay/Outdoors
Last year result: SF MIRACLE. Loss to Safarova. Yeah, don't remind me of that first set.
Best result: 2008 CHAMPION.
Ana basically doesn't defend anything until Paris, but hasn't done much this year coming into the dirt so her ranking is still hovering barely inside the Top 20. Points must be gained somehow or after the French things will get really ugly.
Oh, and don't kill Nigel. Think of the poor man's heart.
AJDE AND LET'S HOPE FOR MIRACLES. As she stated herself:
