I don't see the point of an ITF for top 30 players. It wouldn't change the amount of MD places that week unless we'd have an additional ITF these weeks.

Top 30 players vote to keep the rule and non top 30 players say no I don't get why it is such a big deal

Re: Top 30 Players in ITFs

I think the new rule makes a lot of sense for whomever had that idea That makes the players who actually have to play ITF ,because they don't have ranking to play WTA, in better position to actually be able to play the tournaments. Top30 competition for this new players/or players wanting to go up in ranking is unfair and a disadvantage for them.

I thought only players with a ranking were allowed to vote.

3 of the "no" voters do not have a ranking.

I spent 3+ years trying to get a decent ranking, this time last year I was scrambling around trying to avoid quallies in challengers - this year I've had a good year, why should I suffer for that now by not being allowed to play at all.

The one ITF per week for Top 30 is something I would support though.

Re: Top 30 Players in ITFs

I voted for the new rule. Anyhow, this is a bit senseless. Majority of the scenarios are around three cases:

-Top 30 forgot to commit to WTA, but still inside ITF deadline. (Actually this is why I voted for the new rule)
-Slams 2nd week. They should be allowed to play.
-Off-season. Joe will anyhow extend the main draw for 64 and then it is not a problem. I would rather suggest to stop qualifying in off-season and announce by default 64MD for all tourneys.

I am bad and that's good.
I will never be good and that's not bad.
I will always be me.

Re: Top 30 Players in ITFs

Ok, imagine there's a new rule. Player X is in singles Top 30, but outside of Top 30 in doubles. He would be unable to play ITFs only in singles or in doubles too?

Re: Top 30 Players in ITFs

ok, it would be stupid to wait until the start of next season to implement this rule, so it comes into effect almost immediately. entry lists, etc are completed for next week's challenger tourneys, so the rule is NOT in effect for them. however, the following week, all top 30 players are considered to be LEs for ITF events.

to avoid confusion;
week 47 events have the OLD rule
week 48 events have the NEW rule

Come on the Bhoys!
