Hello all!

If you have any ideas about a rule or several rules in TT that you want changed, then just post them in here and we will look at them, together, at the end of the season.
There will be polls about several decisions for sure, some things which were discussed a few times over the last years won't be discussed again this year.

Nothing will be done before the end of the season (unless there is a truly exceptional circumstance), this thread is more a place to write down an idea you have that you might forget about later.

Feel free to make suggestions and feel free to give us a feedback in the thread as well about the ideas coming up here, it will make it easier for the board to see if ideas/suggestions are popular or not or if a poll makes sense or if it is already clear that a rule change will happen or not!

But please behave, no off topic talk, fights etc., stay on topic, dicuss rules only and exchange opinions, no drama needed here! ;)

I'll update post #2 every once in a while with a summary about discussed topics/options

I wish that w/os weren't counted for our official H2H on the site :p

I also have something else in planned, but will mention it as soon as I worked out the system ;)

I am going to tell you right now that is not how it is going to work. People will accuse of favoritism or will complain that their country doesn't have a tournament for them to get a WC

getting rid of people being able to commit to multiple tournaments.
Oh hell to the NO!
I like our system, it's MTFs trash system that I don't like that I have to wait until 5PM each Sunday to see if I will even have a remote chance to play an ATP. I would prefer that I am able to commit to an ATP and a CH and see where I am best fitted.

but I have an idea for this as well :oh:

getting rid of people being able to commit to multiple tournaments.

allow the email again if the websites down and you can screen grab it (or take a picture)

@DropShotAce WCs for people from host countries/ countries near by/ defending champions could only be made possible if people switched their countries which...tbh would make for a more fun Fed cup to have more countries. I'd be willing to work something out though to make it less about favorites?

1. Being able to send picks to email, but those picks would count only the manager has been alerted (personally or through someone else).
^ Not sure about how to formulate this one, but it should definitely be more liberal than being strictly prohibited as it is now.

2. Miscorrectly sent picks to the wrong person (not the manager) give you a warning, but accepted if you prove that you were being punctual (sending them on time). Second/Third warning within the season means you are being disqualified.

Honestly the double commitment rule is working great. I don't know why some people are still against it.
Before that it was a hot mess. And no, choosing a random tournament with the hope you'll fit in the MD or QD and pray people go anywhere else is not better alternative than having 24 hours to decide where to play with actual closed lists

#18 ·
Agreed, I am totally on camp double commitment. It would be nice by the way if people who do not want that system to outline how they do want to organise the commitment system. Saying no without presenting an alternative is too easy.

WC for managers, to try to raise the numbers on the managers we have
I thought we had shot that down already in previous dicussions and with good reason. If people only want to manage to get a wildcard, they clearly do not have the right motivation. I am all for finding ways to increase the number of potential managers. This is the wrong incentive to me. It would work better to me to have management coaches (experienced managers) to help guide potential new managers in their first tournaments, so they have someone to fall back on.

OTOH the rule about sending both managers, not forward picks, not understandable person, etc should be reconsidered cause imho is not working and is too strict. People used to complain with the previous rule but not as much as with the current one

I've some issues to address myself as well:

1. SE system regarding ALTs - do players like the idea of ALTs for SEs if they aren't used or when a SE is not necessary? Or only the players that "won" a SE should be able to receive one (and if they don't use it, the SE spot will be cleared on the EL)?

2. Notifying players to send picks - do players like that managers notify players to send picks? Is this fair for players who are LL or ALT?

3. Re-writing rules - some rules are a bit difficult to understand (even for me). Would a simplified Rules page be desirable?

4. Forwarding players picks if sent to the wrong manager - do players prefer the previous rule where managers accept picks as long as they are forwarded before the deadline?

5. Emergency email address - the reason this subject was brought up last year was when a player sent to the email address, the manager had to wait til a board member forwarded the picks, which could take a long time (as we aren't here 24/7). Moreover, the rule "The emergency email address can only be used when the site is down for a longer period" is very arbitrary. Cause what is a longer period? And did this apply to all players or just a few of them (due to their location)?

Well, if I as a manager get WCs into tournaments thanks to my sucky ranking, I wouldn't mind having to forward picks back and forth and what not...
but if I am volunteering my time and my time is limited no matter how many people might believe it is not, I don't want to have another chore tbh, I want to be done with diffs as soon as possible and get on to other tasks in the day, or just watching the matches really

so it depends on the outcome of the offseason what my opinion is on this matter.

:oh:

#5 when managing on MTF you give your personal e-mail , and I've taken only 2 or 3 that couldn't access the site, but it didn't hold anything up and diffs were on time, seems reasonable , I'm sure there are arguments why this doesn't work, as in trusting the manager I suppose , and if they check there e-mail , but it works fine when I manage on MTF , as my emails pop up on screen thru outlook.

#27 ·
I've done that as well (on MTF) and I've received a lot of (none-MTF related) spam. After deleting/editing the post, the spam stopped. Could be just me, but I don't like my email address openly on the forum :oh:

then those shitty managers won't be allowed to manage
and just so that they don't complain that we are playing favorites, the players themselves will decide who should be given a chance to manage again or not

as I said, I am working on it
there are a lot of potential problems and flaws that is true, but tbh to the bone, I would rather prefer that we have managers that will try and manage and give their best so that the game does not die like on MTF.

#32 ·
I think we should try to change as little as possible because the game is running nicely. I'm totally against WC's for managers for the reason Adey stated above and I don't think that players should decide who is a good manager or not because it will lead to a popularity contest. We also don't need mentors imo.

#33 ·
SE should be given only to the player who won, not having a bunch of ALTs to follow that. If the SE is not used, it goes to the next player who is on the qualifying list.

#35 ·
how is that different than our SEs?
we give SEs to many more tournaments then MTF, they occasionally give them, and you have to WIN a CH, while here you can get 4 SFs and still get a SE

#38 ·
We need to bring back player parties. When I started playing, Alen's tournaments in particular used to have really good player parties. Now we don't have any. If you're playing for peanuts in the ITFs it's a great way of getting a half decent meal at least once a week.

I think maybe it would be fair to count result for SR if retirement happen in third set. Because then it was good prediction by player who suggested 2-1 score and obviously one of players could make fight to make it to third set, but also, because reason doesn't have to be necessary injury (or at least, it can look like it is not injury...in example, Stevenson retired against Rajicic this week when score was 1-6 6-4 5-4 40-30 ).

#45 ·
I'm not sure how it could be worded or used, but it's most irritating when a player retires down 63 40 and you need the 2-0 SR , must be a way to count matches like this as 2-0 , same as for example 64 36 40 as a 2-1 , I think with something like a 3 game lead in that set of retirement.

I think your example of just down 5-4 40-30 would be tougher though to count , as it's so close, I'd have to assume an actual injury, other then pride:grin2:

WC for locals doesn't work for people who build up our rankings like me. People like us is not willing to be bump out of Maindraw just for someone who didn't earn it in the first place. If you going to do something like WCS for randoms then they need to earn it in some sort of way. We can't accept it just be given it to them out of being local.

top 30 players aren't allowed to play ITF in 2nd week of Slams, Miami/IW if they lost in the first week (and are eligible to play ITF if they lost before 3rd round)

top 30 players aren't allowed to play ITF during off season (or maybe finish the year after YEC, period)

best of 22 results count for the rankings since most play 45 plus tournaments per year, no tournament is mandatory

no partial results of TT matches or actual matches during the play, if you have the desire to explain your win/loss, do it after the whole day is over

#44 ·
WC for managers is total BS, you are managing to keep the game alive and not for your own profit

What I would like to add as a suggestion:

1) w/os are not counted for H2H
2) race being as soon as Singapore ends, like in reality. Doug and I vultured almost 700 pts in the offseason and if those were counted we would have a shot at Singapore at the moment
3) we need to give more PRs since we give the same amount as in reality while everyone here plays at least 35-40 tournaments per year. I suggest two PRs for a Slam and 12-14 for regular competition
