Anjelica de la Courtiere released the following statement:

"Following my doubles win in Mexico City with the wonderful and talented player, Ana-Maria Herrera, I've become #9 in the world in doubles. This is the first time this year that I've entered the top ten ranking in either singles or doubles. I'm so pleased, and I hope that it is just the beginning of my rise up the ranks."

<br />Zerene Fernandez had the following to say:

"To do what I did in my home country, and get a pro ranking... it's just great. I can't put into words how happy I am."

<font size=3>Ferrer ends second straight year as #1<font size=2>

Larissa Ferrer of Great Britian ended her second straight year on the FWTT as the #1 player. Larissa won the Australian Open and was finalist at US Open.

Followed behind her was the resurgant Sabine Graf, who made her rise to the rankings following her Wimbledon win. Sabine also won several tournaments, assuring her of the #2 ranking.

Ruflina Taliamanosoko, the first black player to be ranked in the top 5, finds herself at #3 with a dramatic year. Missing the first 5 months with pregnancy, she made the finals of the French and Wimbledon, before finally winning the US Open.

Nicole Arenot, the #4, made waves after the French when she went on a tear and won several tournaments.

Jelena Dokic, who has only played for one year, is placed at #5. With very consistent and strong results, she is one to look for next year.

The rest of the top 10:

6 - Marteena Huubere (Aus) 620 pts. <br />7 - Selima Valentine (Ger) 616 pts. <br />8 - Eva Sorrenta (Can) 591 pts. <br />9 - Jane Wong (Hkg) 566 pts. <br />10 - Regla Torres (Col) 548 pts.

<font face=5>Nicole aims the top 30</font><br />Nicole Lamanke-Huber, currently ranked #32 in FWTT Tour, still wants to finish the year in the Top 30 Group.<br />"That's my main goal" - she said. "I will still play $25K Mount Gambier and $50K Prague." If I do well at those tournaments I definitely have a chance. If not, well, I'll try to be a Top 15 next year <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

the softspoken Riana S. Zubir from is Indonesia shows her anger for the first time as she is not happy with her year-end ranking at no 11 , she was quoted saying

" how can u be ranked #11 in the world, when you have 5 titles under your belt, not to mention another final at the end of the year? I don't think it's fair, the ranking system should be changed. I deserved much better than that!"

Well, Riana Zubir, this happen to Jane Wong, she has 4 titles and 3 more finals + A Grand Slam win, but after that she hardly has anything left, that's why

Riana Shamira Zubir:

Sydney: 1r<br />Aus Open 1r<br />Paris: WR<br />Nice: WR<br />Dubai: 1r<br />Indian Wells: WR<br />Miami: WR<br />Amelia Island: 1r<br />Charleston: 1r<br />Hamburg: 1r<br />Rome: 1r<br />Roland Garros 1r<br />Wimbledon 1r<br />Knokke-Heist: Qf<br />Casablanca: Sf<br />San Diego: Sf<br />Toronto: WR<br />New Haven: Qf<br />US Open 1r<br />Tokyo: 1r<br />Bali: 1r<br />Moscow: 1r<br />Filderstadt: 1r<br />Zurich: Qf<br />Luxembourg: 2r<br />FWTT Champs: 1r

the main reason is simple. in the 4 slams you only got 1 point so you couldnt add more points in the tournaments that give more points...
