MARY

Do you remember the Mary's fan with a strange haircut ?

(July 4th, 1994 - August 5th, 2009) I love you so much... I miss you so...

Mary Pierce has beautiful ambitions for 2006
" To win a Slam "

Mary Pierce had left us on one finale of anthology in last November with Masters of Los Angeles. In this beginning of year, the Frenchwoman carries the most optimist glance on the new season.

Mary, you realized an exceptional year in 2005, marked by your victories to San Diego and Moscow and your finales to Roland Garros, the US OPEN, Masters Cup and Fed Cup. What do you think about it?

Mary Pierce:
It was an exceptional year. Since RG, everything was very well linked. I lived very strong moments with many victories and very few defeats. I even caught myself by taking away match which I would have never thought of winning.

We feel you more serene on courts. Did you modify your method of approach important rendez-vous?

Mary Pierce:
Let's say that I do not put on myself any more useless pressure, I'm above that now, I understood that work pays whatever it arrives and whatever results do not come alone. My watchwords are henceforth discipline and determination.

Having beaten the better players of the tour, do you think of having qualities required to be able to, one day, to become number one in the world?

Mary Pierce:
I always dream to be the best player of the world. The last season, I effectively beat girls who were seedeed better than me (NDLR: Mary Pierce is 5-th in the WTA). To become number one is completely possible. I am not afraid of anybody.

We already evoked it, the year 2005 will have been for you a big vineyard, but you very often failed in finale. In the future, could it destabilize you in the approach of big tournaments, notably for the Slam?

Mary Pierce:
I am going to surprise you but I keep only good memories of my finales. There is no bitterness or psychological impact. On the contrary, it motivates me even more for 2006.

About the new season, did you settle precise objectives?

Mary Pierce:
I am going at first to try to make as well as in 2005 while knowing that my main ambition is to win a Slam. Then, if I can improve my ranking and become french number one, well it will be great. But sincerely I do not think of it really.

And about Fed Cup?

Mary Pierce:
I gave a lot of myself this last 3 years because I like this competition. It is a special moment when the french team is together. If I am selected in the group, I will be very motivated to win.

Which is going to be your comeback tournament?

Mary Pierce:
As in 1995 and in last January, I shall make my return for the competition at the AO. I am in phase of preparation and I already feel good sensations. I already look forward to being in Melbourne because I appreciate enormously this tournament.

You will maybe cross the road of Martina Hingis...

Mary Pierce:
Personally, I am very happy to see her again at the highest level, she is champ. I do not know her current level but I think that she chose the good moment to return because the circuit looks very opened, for everybody
