Re: Maria in the Forbidden City - Beijing

Why will Kirilenko play Luxembourg instead of the only tournament that takes place in her home country? In her home town even. Where she made the final last year after all. Is it one last desperate attempt to make Bali or a roadmap requirement thing maybe?

Also wondered the same about Azarenka and Pavlyuchenkova...but they don't even need to make an attempt at Bali.

Re: Maria in the Forbidden City - Beijing

So Sam's two losses to Kiri in Asia have come sandwiched in between Sam winning the US Open, and then Sam reaching a final & plowing through her first WTA match.

Do you think maybe, just maybe, other fans & the media might give Kiri some credit rather than lumping "Sam's swoon" in with Li Na & Kvitova's post-slam hangovers?

Re: Maria in the Forbidden City - Beijing

No, Sam did NOT have a hangover or something like this after her US Open win....
It was just Kiri who played two outstanding, fantastic matches against sam, staying focused all the time
She did not only beat sam in the last tournaments of the year, but also high class players like julia goerges, ana ivanovic, tamira paszek (all of them in straight sets) and carla suarez navarro...
ok there were two matches she should/could have won, but:
...the loss to scheepers in Guangzhou was some sort of bad luck (overrules and hindrance)
...losing to niculescu in peking wasn't that huge choke as we initially thought, considering monica's incredible run to the final later at luxembourg

I'm so glad they picked kiri for the fedcup finales, it was an excellent choice
