Wimbledon 07

Ai Sugiyama JPN (26)
Melanie South GBR

Maria Kirilenko RUS
Alize Cornet FRA

should be able to beat the young french girl cornet, currently ranked 140, 1st round exits at both french and australian opens this year.
if she manages to get to the third round, she will probably have a match against sharapova!!

in doubles:

Aravane Rezai FRA
Julia Vakulenko UKR
Maria Kirilenko RUS (12)
Elena Vesnina RUS (12)

Re: Wimbledon 07

Yes I'm hoping for a win over Cornet. It's going to be tough against Sugiyama (assuming Sugiyama wins her first round match) in the second round though - Kirilenko's played her twice this year, both times going to three sets ending with Makiri losing. She's definitely capable of beating Sugiyama, she just needs to keep on fighting!

Maria has been close to beating Sugiyama twice this year. I think third time's the charm. Maria played well against Jankovic so I think she has what it takes to make the third round.

Re: Wimbledon 07

This is a tough draw for Maria. Young Alize has been playing extremely well, while Maria as you all know has struggled. Plus grass is not her best surface.

Alize lost her qualie in a marathon 3 setter vs Govortsova losing the 3rd set 14-12, but made the draw as LL!!

I'm looking at this tie with more than a little trepidation. She should have beaten Jelena at the DFS, but.........

Good Luck Maria!!!

Come on Masha! You can do it. Alize is a young girl and will probably look to avenge her loss in qualies but just keep on fighting.

Alize is very talented but if Masha can play her game, then she should have no problems.

Sugiyama has beaten our Masha twice but I remember Petrova doing the same but the third time they met, Masha crushed Nadia. Maybe heytennis is right about third time's the charm.

Good luck Makiri! Let's have a good strong showing at Wimbledon this year! Hopefully, the new addition of a coach will help her game.

Re: Wimbledon 07

I think that Makiri should win her first round match and the projected second round match against Ai will be a tossup. If she can get past her to get to the third round where she`ll very likely play Masha, then it would be pretty good for her on the singles tournament. As for doubles, i don`t if she and Elena V has teamed up in the past, but i think that they could get a couple of wins with the favorable early draw they got. After that it`ll get very tough in the third round with them likely meeting up either against Molik/Santanglo or the Bondarenko sisters. I really hope that Makiri can have a nice showing in Wimbledon overall. A couple of wins there will help build some much needed positive momentium heading into the US hardcourt season.

I think this is the first time Makiri and Elena have played together. Should be interesting to see how they do!

Re: Wimbledon 07

I do believe Makiri can make the 3rd round, if she plays like she did against Jankovic then.........well don't really need to say anything more!

Though Cornet also is 140 in the world, it all is equally dangerous to Maria. I wish Maria of good luck!!!
