In need of a coach, again

Maria once again is without a coach. Nigel Sears is the new Fed Cup captain of Great Britain.

Hopefully Maria will find a coach who can help turn her career back in the right directon. That of course means no daddy. Stay away Yuri!

Why do they keep leaving her to be Fed Cup Captains?
Although I am quite happy about this one, I don't think Nigel could have done much for her!

Re: In need of a coach, again

"For Sears, who refused a one-year deal to coach Maria Kirilenko, of Russia, one of the best young players in the world, to become women’s head coach, that means an absolute dedication to the cause. He will be working with players on the cusp of the professional game and beyond, an area where the women’s game has disintegrated recently.

“We have a lot of work to do,” Sears, who will become Britain’s new Fed Cup captain, said. “No one is going to pretend we have a whole load of highly ranked players, so it’s a question first of getting the best from those we have and, crucially, working hard at the lower end of the scale as well. Our initial work is going to be assessing the strength of the player base and improving our talent ID.

“To be able to create something in British tennis is the most motivating and stimulating thing I could want to be involved with.” "

Re: In need of a coach, again

I wish she could go back to David Taylor.
Oh well, let's hope she gets a good coach. Definitely no dad. And I don't know if it's the right time to be coachless. Seeing as she came off a very bad end to the season and is now preparing for next year.

Re: In need of a coach, again

What worries me is that Makiri heads into 2007 without a legitimate WTA Tour coach. I don't think Nigel Sears is a big loss for Maria but the timing is bad. Hopefully she will hook up with someone good such as Olga Morozova.

I wish she stayed with David also! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't David Taylor Ana Ivanovic's coach? Not having a coach right now is definitely bad timing for Makiri. The 2007 season is just around the corner. I wish she would just take a stand against her father and make her own decisions like House mentioned before. It's her life, her career, and her money. Her tennis is in limbo. Please Yuri, I beg you don't decide to be her coach this new year! We've seen the results of that. Let her choose a coach and make it quick, don't diddle dally Yuri and hope for the best.

K_K, it's a differnt mentality amongst the Russians. The tennis players usually make up part of a family team with their parents. The same is true of Elena Dementieva who is coached by her mother Vera. This way Elena's family has control of her money and none of it is spent on strangers like coaches. I'm sure Makiri's parents would like same thing. Now it's up to Little Masha to be a big girl and say adios to her father as her coach.

Re: In need of a coach, again

I hope she finds a good one soon, even just for the AO. Lesley Bowery is involved with other things, but maybe she could help over Maria's Ozzie tournies. A lot of peolple over here dont rate Sears all that highly, but they never had much time too work together.

Coach or not, I still think she will take another title this coming season.

Go Masha

Re: In need of a coach, again

Who will gonna be her new coach?
I think it's good news for her.
Sears is not enough for her...
Her records after she changed her coach to Sears are not that good.
I hope the new coach will help our Makiri to be top 10 player!

Re: In need of a coach, again

By this time, all the Cup team directors are waiting to know who is going to be Maria's next coach. Then, the Cup team that's of the same nationality will hire the coach.

Caroline Wozniacki

#1, what Cup team directors are you talking about?

That is SO right!

cat, he means all the Fed Cup directors are waiting so see who works with Maria next, then they'll snatch the coach away ala David Taylor and Nigel Sears.
