Has anyone heard of Julia Schruff from Germany???? Who is she??? I never heard of her before. Is she a righty or lefty??? Does she a strong forehand or backhand or both??? How's her serve??? Is she a baseliner or serve & volleyer (which I doubt since it's virtually nonexistent in women's tennis). What are her court tendencies??? Does she go for the lines or just relies on getting the ball back??? Is she a speedster on the court or runs like molasses??? The reason I ask so many questions is so that we can provide a gameplan for Makiri and her coach. Please help Makiri get pass the 1st round this yeat at the USO!!!! You can send donations to the "Makiri gets past the 1st round" foundation. Money orders are accepted!!! Does anybody think Makiri will get past the 1st round??? I think she's going to surprise alot a people despite her recent perfomances. Go Makiri!!!!!

We shouldn't underestimate Schruff. She beat Pennetta at the US Open last year (1st round 6-4 3-6 7-5) and Dementieva at the AO this year (1st round 7-5 6-2). In spite of everything Maria should be in the position to beat her *thinks positive*.

This is a great draw for Maria and she happens to be the only one of faves in the bottom half, therefore she has to get to the final!

Yeah, like I said, great draw but this is Maria so I don't think its gonna help all that much... Hoping for some surprises from her though!

Davai Makiri!

If Maria plays her game, she should beat Schruff. Julia doesn't have a great serve or a big game to punish Maria. The biggest concern with Maria is her confidence. I don't think that the draw is that bad for the 1st few rounds if she plays the ways she is capable. Hopefully, she'll turn it around. I will at least be tehre to encourage her onward

Thanks for the info on Schruff guys. She seems like no easy pushover for Makiri. I guess she has her work cut out. I just hope and pray she does well. I'm still nervous about Makiri's game and her state of mind. Hopefully she'll take it to Schruff and win convincingly in straight sets. Even a tough three set win against Julia would be nice. They say every player needs to experience a tough match at the USO in order to get settled in. If that happens, I like here chances going far in the draw. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Go Makiri!!!!
