BBC Documentary Series "Girls on Tour" (WTA 2001/02)

I have been wanting to create this thread for a very long time. I was contemplating to post it in GM, but it might seem more suitable here as the documentary series "Girls on Tour" features life on the tour - but it's been 10-12 years already!

The featured player is Magdalena Maleeva, but there are major insights into the background of the WTA in general, too. This includes Anna Kournikova's contribution to the tour, the role of parents in the sport and WTA behind the scenes management. There's quotes from numerous players and many other stars appear frequently (such as Capriati, Davenport, Hingis, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Anna Kournikova) but also some talents who were considered to become great champions such as Iroda Tulyaganova and Lina Krasnorutskaya.

It took me a long time to upload this. I'm sure some people can recall it. I hope for a nice discussion in this thread, too. This was my favourite WTA generation and I would SO like to go back and experience all of this again.

Here it is:

Re: BBC Documentary Series "Girls on Tour" (WTA 2001/02)

I am a little bit surprised there's not more people responding to this post. I always read about the glorification of the years 1998-2002, then I post something about it and now it is not discussed much. Maybe I should have put this in GM?
Anyways, hope you guys appreciate it - I sure do when I think of this time!

I haven't had the chance to do so before, but I want to thank you, crazillo! I greatly enjoyed watching the documentary, especially since I have always been interested in all three Maleevas. Maggie sure let the crew follow her around a lot and ask some personal questions. I didn't know that she felt so much pressure and claimed to have been the cause of some of her injuries.

Thanks again.

Thanks a lot Crazillo, I've been wanting to see this forever! BTW, I think this was broadcast on Channel 4, which isn't part of the BBC, but I'm not sure. I was just saying because I'm not sure what copyright laws are on Youtube.

Thank you for posting the videos.

Me thinks, you will get a better response to this thread by shifting it to General Messages.

Amazing thanks so much for posting! I'd completely forgotten this programme but before clicking on the link I remembered watching it. Takes me back to Jen's golden years, such a wonderful trip down memory lane. It's a shame new tennis fans will never experience how great the WTA was in the late nineties/early naughties. Amazing tennis and a soap opera to boot lol!

Thanks for this I'd love if they did something similar again with the modern tour.
