Chris Evert could have retired many before 34 yo

The resilience of that woman is utterly remarkable.
When you think about it she could have retired many times after 1978. She always talked about her longing to raise a family late '70s early '80s. She might have thought about retiring many times around those years.
Then came the 13 match losing streak to Martina. Lots of top players would have given in. I even read somewhere that she said that she would have retired had she won the 1984 USO final against Martina. Losing this match must have been devastating for her, at almost 30 yo. I'm sure she hesitated about quitting.
But no, she found the strength to manage to win matches againt Martina again, winning 2 more slams at over 30.
Her tennis level remained strong until 1988, in spite of meeting Andy Mills.
Thoughts ?

Chris Evert vs Martina Navratilova (1988) Michelin Challenge Exh. Highlights (Part 2 of 2)

The most incredible performance I have ever seen from Chris Evert, especially from 3:00 onwards.

Imagine Hana Mandlikova in one of her purple periods, except that it continues for the whole match.

Yeah but that's an exhibition. Always loved it when she touches her hair after a winner in a way that's saying I'm so perfect and classy just look at me type.

I think she said if Martina didnt emerge and surpass her she would have retired, but that is what motivated her to continue.
