Well, I'm exhausted....

I think I've spent entirely too much time this weekend wading through the innumerable Fed Cup debacle posts. I'm already so sick and tired of it, but funny thing is, if not for the internet, I'd have been totally oblivious to what happened until the next time I watch Jen play. This is getting zero coverage in the mainstream media.

Anyways, I truly wish Jen would have ditched Fed Cup on day 1 and saved herself and everyone else the hassle. Once again, Jen really doesn't make things easy on herself, does she? But what's done is done, and I truly hope she's able to put this behind her for her upcoming tournaments. Did you guys read BJK's latest comments?...

"I think she's feeling a lot of pressure with the French coming up and having to defend her title, " King told ********************. "She's feeling a tremendous amount of pressure. Its starts to add up. It's like boiling water – it keeps boiling with the temperature getting higher and higher. I think she tired, too. It's hard work."

forget it BJK USA lost n that is a fact.... i mean despite kicking Capriati out but the overall strength of the US Team with Meghan n Seles is still way ahead of the Austrians, esp so when they are without their top player Schett!!yet they lost both their singles
so we really have to think what went wrong n the only thing i can think of is BJK not really able to motivate the team n give proper guidance during the matches....

I’ve also had my fill of this story! It’s a hard point to argue because it all comes down to a subjective interpretation of the words “rule”, “practice” and whether or not a coach should be allowed to curtail a player’s free time. We can all talk until we’re blue in the face, but at the end of the day everyone’s only going to believe what they want to believe.

BOTTOMLINE: If the team was as distracted by all this as much as they are now claiming to have been, I think they should have been concentrating less on what Jennifer Capriati was doing and more on what a player named Barbara Schwartz was doing. A #75 should NOT beat both the #6 and #12 players in the world, at home, when it counted. I really like both Meghann and Monica, but it seems a little too convenient to me that there’s a scapegoat out there to blame when a long look in the mirror might also suffice.

OK - Dumb Food for Thought Question: Do you think we are all on Jen's side because we like her OR because we collectively have the type of personality that is drawn to a person like Jen (i.e. someone with a history of challenging rules) in the first place and therefore we're more inclined to agree with her because of that?

I guess I ask because I'm shocked (and slightly horrified) that there are so many people out there who claim to be so willing to blindly follow rules regardless of whether they make any sense. I wonder if they are Jen-haters, or just, well, more cattle-like.

(Guess I wasn't as tired of this subject as I thought….)

I am drawn to Jens side for a few reasons.

1) I am a fan of Jen, and will naturally biased towards being pro her. I think that BJK dismissed Jen at the latest time to cause maximum disrupsion and publicity.

2) BJK changed the rule AFTER Jen had arrived, she had no prior knowledge of the rule and may have changed her mind whether to play in accordance to those rules.

3) I have been studying the effects of obedience and conformity at school, and it shocked me. So, yay Jen for standing up fo her beliefs.

and where they produce desolation, they call it peace
