Lea Pericoli - Classic Photos

Lea used to wear the most incredible outfits designed by Teddy Tinling, including this one which was made of Ostrich Feathers. Lea would lob about 97% of her shots......

Hi Bionic!

Yes, Lea was incredible. Very glamourous. Together with her partner Sylvia Lazzarino (spelling?) they used to lob their way through most of their matches - and had good success on the clay.

She was once quoted that she would only wear her ostrich feathers on court if she thought she would win. If she was drawn to play Billie-Jean or someone of her standard she wouldn't, as she didn't want to look embarassed running around in ostrich feathers unless she was going to win!!!!

Fantastic huh! I have more pics of her but I couldn't post them here as the files were too big. I might create a web page with some pics of her! LOL

Thanks for the pics.
Though i'm in Italy, i haven't got many photos of her.

Yes, Pericoli "created" glamour in tennis, apparently.
(even though Rollo has recently introduced me to an older tennis sensation)

TennisVideoes, Silvia spells with an "i", not a "y"

Thanks for the pics, TV! They don't make outfits like that anymore. (And that's not necessarily a bad thing.)

Lea and Lazzarino often had doubles teams tearing out their hair in Rome, where the women were often so ignored playing on outer courts that they had les than 50 spectators at some ladies finals. Well, when an Italian woman was involved a crowd of 20 could swell to 2,000, and the line calls were infamous!

Tinling briefly mentions one Pericoli match in "Love and Faults".

Quote:
Karen Susman playing Lea Pericoli in Rome. 2,000
Romans cheering Lea's every shot. Karen questioning the 4th ghastly line call given against her. "I always play to the unpire's decision", said Lea, with an angelic smile. "Have you no eyes,
no conscience? said Karen. Lea won the match.

She could have been like Kournikova if the times had been different then. There were no world rankings at that time but she was a Top 30-50 player. She reached the Wimbledon R16 three times and beat players such as King, Jones, Susman, etc.

She's a very elegant and nice lady who's working in tennis and fashion (what a surprise).

Lea Pericoli

Didn't she have a cameo in "Pink Flamingos"?? Makes Gussy Moran look downright tame!

AlfaJeffster wore something very similar when we played last spring in Paris - but in black, with gold accessories: very fetching.

Bitch!

There is nothing more beautiful than Evonne Goolagong in full flight moving across a tennis court.
