This week's big event, a Tier I, is the Ladies Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Top names as Dementieva. Myskina, Sharapova. Schnyder and Mauresmo will be playing here. Before the main draw action gets underway, we start with the qualifying competition though! The qualifying draw is also a strong one with players as Koukalova, Benesova, Safarova and Domachowska playing.
Please also vote for the events still underway (ITF Barcelona, Troy & Juarez) and for the qualifying event in Bangkok.
Last season's final:
Elena Dementieva RUS beat Vera Zvonareva RUS | 6-3 6-3
1. Klara Koukalova CZE
2. Lucie Safarova CZE
3. Iveta Benesova CZE
4. Marta Domachowska POL
No real surprises took place in the second qualifying round. Top favourites Lucie Safarova, Iveta Benesova and Marta Domachowska all won their matches comfortably in two sets, even though Domachowska faced a set point against Switzerland's Emmanuelle Gagliardi.
After having upset PYW favourite and #1 seed Klara Koukalova, Tzvetana Pironkova continued her great form by ousting Ukrainian teenager Katerina Bondarenko in straight sets. She now faces local wild card player Elena Vesnina, who beat Belarussian Anastasiya Yakimova in three tough sets.
Another wild card player advancing was Alisa Kleybanova. She was 4-3 down in the final set against Sesil Karatancheva, the #2 seed, but prevailed in the end. This underlines the uncertain PYW status that Karatancheva has on the PYW Tour.
The two remaining players in the qualifying round are Ekaterina Bychkova, who fought off #3 seed Katarina Srebotnik, and yet another Eastern European starlet, Viktoriya Kutuzova.
It's up to you decide who qualifies for the main draw of this strong Tier I event by voting for your favourite in each match!
