We (Carsten and me) went together to Louxembourg and had a lot of fun there. Although the venue is as crappy as in the years before, there are some new things, i.e. the seats are blue now.
You see, much money was invested there.
Anyways, the matches we saw very sometimes more, sometimes less interesting.
We first watched Mattek against some Czech girl we never heard of. She shouldn't play so soon again, because she was bad, worse, the worst I ever saw. She was pretty lucky to win a game. We left after the first set, but always glimpsed over there from the CC. On that court, we saw the end of Cara Black, who made it more interesting than she needed to, but she finally won 7-5 in the second set. Then we watched nearly the whole match of Andrea Petkovic and Katie O`Brien. Babsi Rittner was in the crowd. They both fought hard. In the first set, Andrea really dominated with strong shots and O´Brien could only react. In set 2, Petkovic became more erratic and Katie pushed herself hard. In the third, O´Brien started to hit harder and harder, Petkovic was in the defense, still fought, but it was too much for her. She could have won and after losing thethre were some tears coming up in her eyes. So sad, we were a bit depressed. Then she came: Alexandra Stevenson. As confident as always she presented e herself. She hit as hard as always, she cheered herself up in "touching" her leg a la Mary Pierce very often (even after the first point) and took an "injury-timeout" after one set. We were really amused by her behaviour. Afterall, she blew a huge lead over Bondarenko in set 1 only to tank set 2. Typical. There was a very funny situation with a certain photo which I won't betray now, but you can be sure, there's nothing more funny than that.
After a longer break for us we saw a bit of Klösel, who mauled Schaul. Claudine is so bad at the moment, but Klösel incredibelly strong as well. The last one for us was Tatiana Malek vs. Kirsten Flipkens. The best match of the day quality-wise. Malek has a good forehand and defens really well, while Kirsten is just boom-bang, but pretty erratic. Malek needs to improve her serve though. After a very tight first set which Malek won we needed to leave to catch our bus and train later.
We saw some players practising. Farina-Elia and Hantuchova looked so-so, Maggie and Dinara were both very good, they shared the court with Krajicek and someone else we couldn't figure out. Chladkova looked OK (we also saw her doing some crazy strechting before).
All in all, it was a good day which could have been better. But in the end we two also wanted to meet after some failures in the past and it was a good time we spent together there and one more day then in his hometown.
Pictures to follow.
