PYW - Rogers Cup
Welcome to Toronto! This year the Rogers Cup is part of the PYW Tour for the first time. Next year, the city of Montréal will play host to all these PYW stars and their supporters, but for now Toronto takes the honours.
Twelve qualifiers and three lucky losers made it to the main draw, where a total of 56 players will compete for the hotly contested title. It's one of the final tournaments in the PYW season. The start of the US Open will also mean the start of a new PYW season, so this is the final chance to improve the rankings, before points will have to be defended.
Serena Williams was the big upset victim in the previous round, and we don't know what's in store now. The big-time begins with the quarterfinal matches.

Finally, we've reached the final eight.
Top player Serena Williams surprisingly bowed out to Flavia Pennetta of Italy, as the Italian's feisty agressiveness proved to be too much for the powerful American. World number one Daniela Hantuchova lost a tight match to Myskina last round as well. Hantuchova had a chance to close out the second set, but the Russian stepped her game up under pressure and endeared herself to the Toronto fans. The best match in the previous round, however, was between another Russian, Nadia Petrova, against China's Na Li. Petrova saved numerous match points and played brilliant tennis to battle back and win. With Li's loss, Jie Zheng remains the only Chinese player left in the draw, so the Asian fans will need to be out in full assault to propel their last hope to the next round, and hopefully for her, the title.
This round provides some interesting matches, with one of the top favourites Anastasia Myskina going up against Russian-born Tatiana Golovin. Myskina will be the favorite, but Golovin is hungry and seems to be playing well this week. Kim Clijsters will be heavily favored against 18th-ranked Flavia Pennetta of Italy, but as we all know, things are unpredictable. Crowd favorite and Canadian-born Mary Pierce squares off against Jie Zheng, and the ultimate fighter of the event, Petrova, goes up against unheralded Dally Randriantefy, ranked 73.
After all this being said, it's time for you to VOTE once more. Guide your favourite player one step closer to the Rogers Cup title.
