However, in the draw, local players are shown with the Martinique flag and abbreviation (MRN).
Adding to the mystery, the ITF livescore widget doesn't show a flag at all for the players from Martinique or Guadaloupe.

It's an interesting discrepancy.
Martiniue as Guadeloupe were French colonies, but now they are kind of bailiwicks. They are not independant countries, but they are half independant in the French Republic. It's a little bit like Scottland, Wales or North Ireland in the UK

No they're not. They are "régions" just like every other in metropolitan France. It's not comparable to, for instance, New Caledonia which has a different status (IIRC Anaeve Pain isn't listed as French).

I don't understand why they gave them a different flag, it's like giving a specific flag to players from Alsace, Brittany and so on, it doesn't make sense

Martinique and Guadeloupe are French departments. They're 2 of the 5 overseas departments (French Guiana, Reunion and Mayotte too).
Other (groups of) islands also belong to France and are more independent from it, like Caledonia, Polynesia, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, etc.

Embarassing? Van Der Hoek is not promising, is not thar good, has never had great results. What is embarassing in losing to a younger and much more promising player that will probably have a better career than her?
Camilla and Ambre Nicely done.

There is absolutely nothing promising in Boccard's results

ITF gives them not only their own flag but also their own "country" abbreviation: MRN for Martinique and GUD for Guadaloupe. (Imagine identifying players as being from ALS for Alsace or BRT for Brittany.)

Actually, Pain *is* listed as French. That makes it even weirder that players from Martinique and Guadaloupe are not.

Mina is from Guadeloupe and Ramialison is fron Martinique and they are both listed as french player. Pain began to play for New Caledonia and when she had so "promising" result, FFT switched her flag.

Mathilde Johansson

Irena Pavlovic

Kristina Mladenovic

I just noticed Paquet has the exact same ranking in singles and doubles this week: she's tied at #933
