It's been a very surprising week so far. True, Elena Dementieva and Kim Clijsters are still going strong. All of the other top favourites, on the other hand, lost before reaching the quarter finals. Moreover, Dementieva is the only Russian left. No Zvonareva, Petrova, Linetskaya or Kirilenko left.
Mary Pierce got slaughtered in the third round. Gisela Dulko, who enjoyed most of her successes when PYW just started, only lost two games to the #5 on the PYW rankings.
Patty Schnyder is becoming the next best thing in PYW. Completely unpopular a while ago, she is now one of the more popular players and will be looking for a place in the semis today.
Four surprising names are in the bottom half. Benesova will take on Morigami, while a second Japanese player, Ai Sugiyama, meets Karolina Sprem. No seeded players left in that part of the draw.
Can the remaining favourites live up to the expectations? It is time to vote for who you think should reach the semi finals!
