PYW San Diego
Welcome to sunny San Diego! Here the players will be sweating like crazy in one of the biggest events leading up to the US Open. There are loads of points up for grabs in this Tier I event. Only sixteen players remain in the qualifying draw; half of them will enter the main draw and can compete for the title. The other eight, well they can only hope to enter as a lucky loser or to do better next event.
* If a qualifier loses in the first round of the main draw, she receives no first round points as usual

CooCoo's Predicted Qualifiers:
1. Sania Mirza IND 2. Silvija Talaja CRO 3. Alina Jidkova RUS 4. Shikha Uberoi IND 5. Lindsay Lee-Waters USA 6. Hana Sromova CZE 7. Marie-Eve Pelletier CAN 8. Angela Haynes USA
Rodionova upsets Pelletier
Only five out of my predicted eight made it through to the final qualifying round. Jidkova survived a good start from Anne Kremer, winning 4-6 6-0 6-2.
The biggest surprise was possibly the loss of Canadian Marie-Eve Pelletier to Anastassia Rodionova of Russia, who is ranked well outside of the Top 250. And the loss was in straight sets too.
Angela Haynes, who had done so well in Stanford, reaching the semi finals and beating players like Lindsay Davenport, Nathalie Dechy and Lisa Raymond, now lost in the first qualifying round to Québec City champion Maria Emilia Salerni. The Argentine prevailed in a third-set tie-break.
Silvija Talaja's loss to the not very popular Italian Tathiana Garbin was also a big surprise. Talaja, who has done consistently well in qualifying draws, now has to pack her bags after a 1-6 6-2 3-6 loss.
Can the remaining favourites live up to the expectations? Who will buckle under the pressure? It is time to vote for who you think should qualify for the main draw!

I know I've been a liar
And I know I've been a fool
I hope we didn't break it
But I'm glad we broke the rules
My cave is deep now
Yet your light is shining through
I cover my eyes
Still all I see is you
