PYW Stanford | Final Qualifying Round | Please vote!
The first major hardcourttournament since the NASDAQ-100 Open is about to begin. The university of Stanford has built an extra tribune to accomodate the thousands of attendants who will encourage the favourites, the underdogs and the home players. Get ready for some decent hardcourt action!
After some gruelling matches, the second qualifying finally came to an end. Hundreds of attendants watched the losses of seeds, the joys of their compatriots and the despair in the eyes of whom they beat.
Lindsay Lee-Waters was one of those Americans who prevailed on their opponents. The blond mother had to take on 5th seed Sania Mirza. The Indian player already has some impressive wins on her CV, but looked nowhere near her form with wich she defeated world number 3 Anastasia Myskina this year. Lindsay took the first set 6-4, lost the second in a tiebreak and won eventually with 6-4 in the third. A main draw spot lures...
That is if she beats Cara Black. Black, who mainly plays the Grand Slams and always succeeds to win a match or two there, comprehensively took out Varvara Lepchenko. This win may be labelled as a suprise, since the Uzbek player is currently on a semi final streak. Unfortunately, Black took that streak to an abrupt halt.
With the loss of American 3rd seed Meghann Shaughnessy at the hands of Maria Emilia Salerni, Alina Jidkova remains as the highest ranked player in the draw. The Russian defeated the homefavourite Liliah Osterloh and now faces Kveta Peschke, who already recorded a double bagel this tournament.
At least one American will go through to the main draw, that's for sure. Shikha Uberoi and Abigail Spears will fight it out on the somewhat strange looking Centre Court that Stanford beholds.
We already mentioned the win of Salerni over Shaughnessy, but she has another task to forfill before she can join PYW greats as Hantuchova, Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters on the main draw. Silvija Talaja stands in her way. The Croatian player came out of nowhere: Talaja played only 2 PYW tournaments since March, but both were Grand Slams. At Paris, she was immediately halted by Samantha Stosur, but qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon. Will she repeat that feat again?
Now, after all being said, it's time for you to VOTE!

I know I've been a liar
And I know I've been a fool
I hope we didn't break it
But I'm glad we broke the rules
My cave is deep now
Yet your light is shining through
I cover my eyes
Still all I see is you
