Asking for donations is fine, but I would like to have more info.

We have the possibility to give a donation in order to keep this board alive. If the posters are asked to make a donation, we should also be given information about how this board works.
Griffin told me that this is Poe's board. I thought this board was a collective thing. Does this also mean that the donations go to Poe?
Personally, I don't like to donate if I don't get a say in return.
I am very bothered by the fact that WTAWORLD disappeared without any explanation and now that I see that donations are asked, I can't help but thinking that this might have been done on purpose. Panic was created and people are more likely to give if they are emotional...
Just my 2 cents...

As i understand it, posters are not asked to make a donation, they are merely given the opportunity, because many people apparently mailed Poe about that?

I just get the feeling this shut-down was far more an emotional decision, and one I completely understand. Wouldn't like to be in Poe's shoes...

I agree with you that we are not obliged to make a donation and just have the opportunity.
Still, wanting to know what is done with the money is completely justified. And wanting to know what these hours and hours of work exactly consist of is also justified.
I don't get it. These people volunteer to do this work, noone forces them, so what are they complaining about. If I choose to do something, I enjoy it and though it's nice to get some appreciation, I don't expect anyone to be grateful.

I would not mind having to pay 1 dollar per month or so to be able to post on this board, but in that case I really would like to know what the money is spent on and have the details.

Hagar, you may choose to start a board, you may not choose how big the board becomes.

I can easily imagine that the running of the board might become too much for a person. I believe Poe when he says that it's posters who asked for a donation button. No one likes to ask for money, sometimes you don't have much of a choice.

I do understand that you want to know what's happening with the money, but I think it's a bit unfair to say that Poe closed the board on purpose to get more money.

Everything you do continues long after you've gone

Well if it's not true, let him come in here and tell us exactly why.....I realize this is his baord and he has a right to quit whenever he wants, but he closed the board, wihtout giving us any kind of explanation then re-opens it a couple days later and asks for money....I don't really believed he did it to get money, but it does look suspicious....

And I realize that this is his baord and he can do with it what he wants but alot of people love this board and I think he owes everyone who comes here more then to just randomly shut the board down wihtout notice or anything....if he really doesn't wanna run it anymore, let someone else, who does want to, take it over....

Just for the record : we are NOT asking for donations, we're just giving the opportunity to do so if you want to. No obligations.

While it's true that we volunteer to keep this site going, this doesn't mean that we're some kind of charity. The thing is, keeping this site operational costs money. There's the yearly fee for the domain name and the costs to maintain the servers and update the software. The possibility to give a donation was suggested by some members to help us cut the costs.

To suggest that the board was shut down because we wanted money is rather low. It was an emotional decision given in by the fact that the joy of running this site was gone, mainly due to endless complaints and fights. We soon realised though that many people were affected by this and so we decided to re-open it for everyone who enjoys this site.

Once again, we certainly don't force you to give a donation. Just like many volunteers all over the world receive donations from people who appreciate their work and want to help them in doing what they are doing.

but can you give more info Josh? Hagar is right when she says we need an idea of where the money will go. not all of us understand how these sites work. here are a few things I would like to understand: does Poe own the site? who exactly is operating it (is it Amanda?)? is it that person's Job or is it a hobby (was Poe covering all the costs by himself up to now? does he get money back from advarts and such? he must spend many hours on this site- is this his day job or just a hobby?). I don't suspect Poe of trying to take our money, nothing could be further from my mind, I want to be clear on that, I'm just trying to understand what's involved in running this place.

It's too soon to aim for peace. Aim for better conflict management.

Why do you need more info? I dont care if Poe goes out and buys a mini-skirt with the money that I send, as I'm sending it because I am truly grateful for the time and effort they put into maintaining this site, when all the time taking shit from idiots who are here for no other reason than to try to start trouble. If you dont want to make a donation, dont do it - nobody's asking you to. If you think it might be a nice way to express your gratitude for a great site that has become an important daily stop off on the net for most of us, then thats your choice too.

Exactly. The whole point of a donation is that it is voluntary. Nobody is asking for your money, it's a way of showing that you appreciate the work being done and that you support it. Running a website takes time AND money. Or do you think a Board this big costs no money?

Personally, I'd pay to see Poe wearing a mini-skirt, so I can't think of a better way to use my money . And speaking of money, for some reason I can't get it to work? it keeps telling me I am creating the wrong password? anyone had problems too?

I can announce it publicly now : everyone who makes a donation will get a free picture of Poe wearing a mini-skirt in return. That's the least we can do seeing that's what most people wanna see.
