Why not make reps and comments viewable by all?

If only the person receiving reps and rep comments can see them, I don't understand the point of having them at all.

On other forums they're viewable by all when you look at a user's profile. Seeing as it's ok to write pretty much anything in a thread, it seems strange to hide reps.

Many posters do show their reps in the "Who was the last person who GOODrepped You?" Thread.

Re: Why not make reps and comments viewable by all?

There is no specific reason why they are not viewable by all. At this point the rep system is simply set up to quickly give approval or disapproval for a specific post. If you want to debate a specific issue, you can use the relevant thread for that.

They are not terribly exciting actually mostly, save for some people who draw a lot of badreps.

I've got some bad reps which made me laugh. I'd like to read other people's. Of course good reps are not very interesting.

There is a chat thread where people detail their badreps. There you will be able to read some of them:

Would it be possible to see all reps instead of only the last 15? (Or whatever the number is)

Theoretically yes and it used to be like that. I'm not sure why it was changed. Might have been attempt to improve site performance or something.

It was changed when forums owned by this company upgraded somehow and whatever the upgrades were one of the things that got downgraded was the ability to see and keep all your Reps.

Re: Why not make reps and comments viewable by all?

I switched it to 100 displayed reputation on a UserCP. Anything higher may incurring page load issues as it will try to load all reps in one page.

Regards,

MD

Re: Why not make reps and comments viewable by all?

Thanks

So it's not possible to separate the reps from the User CP in order to display them all?

Since you've increased the displayed reputation from 10 to 100, may we, Lifetime Premium Members, please have gif signature/banners? If not, then bigger signatures/banners?!

Re: Why not make reps and comments viewable by all?

It has its pros and cons. It would help in the fact you could gauge that a certain user has credibility around the forum and thus is more likely to contribute to a topic in a positive way, but it would hinder in the fact that if you could see that poster Abc's comment that was shading your fave was positively repped by xyz, it would then add to the drama, as it would add someone else to the fight " xyz your full of it, why would you like that etc etc"

Oh the burden the mods have to bear
