I seem to remember a few months back someone in authority saying we would NEVER get popup ads.

Then it was suggested we can expect popups in the future, but there would be an option to pay a small monthly fee to ax them (as well as for some other benefits).

Like films shown with cuts; like watered down beer; like a rainy day; popup ads bother some people and not others. I have an Ad Smasher installed on one of my PCs, but not the other.

Big deal, it is just one click to close.. I had plenty of popups but I am so quick to close them that that's you from whom I actually learn what those popups could have been about..

Actually it's not just one click to close, at least for me. First of all it's more than one pop-up per session. Secondly when they arrive they resize all my windows. Thirdly they sometimes arrive with additional dialogue to deal with: e.g. the "You are about to view pages over a secure connection. Click OK to continue ..."

But even if it was just one click, that's not the point. Like an insurance salesman who turns up on your doorstep, some people simply find these things offensive. (Others, meanwhile, are happy to swiftly send the salesman on his way and forget about it.)

At the same time I quite appreciate that us users of this board do not own it. The powers that be are quite within their rights to send us any number of popups of any nature.
