Question About Poster Conduct Vis-a-Vis

... a Player or Post talking about a player

I have not been posting here for long, so pardon me if I sound uneducated on this issue.
In general, what is the criteria for bad repping a post?

I had two bad reps yesterday, which I think were given w/o basis and totally unjustified
  1. I created a post about Angela Haynes, but got her last name spelling wrong, which I promptly corrected when it was brought to my attention
  2. Added this rather half-hearted humorous post about Venus-Maria exhibition in Seoul

They said that Russia's Maria Sharapova and America's Venus Williams will play against each other in eastern Seoul on Sept. 19 on the Korean post-harvest holiday of Chuseok..

Isn't this only a week after tthe US Open. I guess Vee will be busy again, taking her 2005 US Open victory tour to South Korea

Koreans and Japanese don't agree on a lot things, but they equaly go crazy about the Blonde One.
Just to outdo Japan earlier gesture toward Sharapova(puting her face on a postage stamp), Korea might name a goverment building after her.
Bad rep comment on 2: "For being a Venus William fan"

People can (and do) give out good and bad reps for whatever reason they see fit. The only thing that not allowed, as far as board rules go, are abusive comments (and yes, we can see your rep comments). On occasion, we will take action if there is an obvious and concerted effort to bomb someone into the red zone, but other than that...

Keep in mind that having a row of red dots won't affect your priviledges on this board in any way shape or form, and the only meaning any of it has, it what you chose to give it.

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.

I think this 2 bad reps are rather baseless, frivolous and petty.
If posters are allowed to bad rep others on baseless ground, then it does a disservice to the board and its body of members

Griff, its a whore system, and we both know it. If it were just the "more convenient way" to compliment or criticize a post that some posters think, it wouldn't even have dots (or the "self multiplying" points) connected with it. And that's not sour grapes, as I'm plus about half a billion, though I've been on "nondisplay" by choice with this account from Day One, and give out only a few "good reps".

Don't worry, the system it's meant to work in a way so you can maintain a green status fairly easy.
A good rep from a poster adds more points that a bad rep from the same poster would subtract.
However abusive message in a bad rep comment should not be allowed (but unfortuntely it is sometimes...)

I can't think of a witty signature right now. I like turtles.

Never ceases to amaze me that people place so much significance on reps from an internet message board...

If the rep function bugs a person, they should just turn it off. It's a fun little function to play with, in essence, a toy...

I'm not arguing with you. They are baseless and petty. That's not the point.

I'd say that's taking the rep comments far too seriously. I've gotten stupid reps, too (someone gave me "I don't like you" for a post reporting a score). So what? Like I said, they don't mean anything - it's just one more way for people to communicate on the board (just what some folks have to communicate is pretty foolish)

No, it's not - but then we can't exactly do anything about comments like that unless someone reports them (via pm is best). I said we CAN see them, I didn't say we go over every comment ever made just for kicks.

By turning it off I meant nondisplay

It's in your User CP, Edit Options, and uncheck "Show My Reputation Level"

Now if only we could "turn off" the fucking vcash, which is the equivilant of candy cigarettes (in terms of hooking kids on a vice without the sponsor breaking any laws).
