question about rep...

If you have like -60,000 rep pts. and you good rep. someone, will it hurt them or just not do anything?

I used to list my favorite tennis players here...
...then they all retired.
I used to keep track of my rankings in fantasy games here...
...then I realized how much I suck.
I used to update this signature, once in a while...
...then I realized no one actually reads it.

I think it just means they don't have enough points of their own to give you either negative points or positive. You still get the comment, but it doesn't affect your point total.

If the poster has less then 100 or 50 posts (not sure which) you will just get a grey dot with their comment
