Preview: Wimbledon 2005 (Paola v Mauresmo)
(WTA's site - June 16 ,2005)
The Wimbledon ladies' singles draw, which took place on Thursday, is
sure to provide some exciting match-ups in the early rounds as well
as in the second week. The following is a look at the 2005 draw,
assessing some of the most exciting potential encounters throughout
the seven rounds.
Our picks for most intriguing first round matches begin with No.3
seed Amelie Mauresmo, who will open against 56th-ranked Paola Suarez.
The two players squared off in the quarterfinals last year, with the
fourth-seeded Mauresmo ousting a ninth-seeded Suarez in three sets.
Suarez has seen her ranking fall due to injuries to her leg and neck
earlier this season, but has won two of her five prior meetings
against the 25-year-old Frenchwoman. Mauresmo, a two-time Wimbledon
semifinalist, has reached three finals this year on the Sony Ericsson
WTA Tour, winning at Antwerp and Rome, while Suarez also had her best
run at Rome, ousting then-7th-ranked Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight
sets en route to a third round finish.
"Aunque ganes o pierdas yo te seguire /ganes 20 copas o te lesiones /A mi no me importa en que puesto estas /si jugas el Masters o a casa te vas /Que bueno que es/ Volverte a ver /Cuanto has logrado y tanto nos has dado /Y aunque tu retiro muy pronto sera /Nadie en este mundo te podra olvidar!"
Pao que este año sea TU año!!
