for that wonderful collection of videos and photos from Aleks match with Kimiko. Even though the match itself was an easy routine win for Aleks the whole ceremony and everything that went with it was very moving and Aleks carried herself with such class as she always does. Kimiko is a legend and she is one of my alltime favourite players. In fact this match was my number one favourite player in the game (Aleks) vs my second favourite player (Kimiko). So for me personally it means so much to see Aleks showing Kimiko so much warmth and respect. I love the photo of them together too. I will put that up as my desktop background photo.
Really pleasing to see Aleks continuing her great from with a nice win against Alison Riske too. She is playing super and there is a very good opportunity for Aleks to go further this week, hopefully a lot further.
Very postive win by Aleks today against Tsurenko. Tsurenko was the defending champion here and she also had a 4-0 record against Aleks. Aleks didn't look happy on the court. To be honest, she looked unusually frustrated and like she didn't wish to be playing tennis.
Yet she still forced herself to give her best effort and it paid off. Nice win for Aleks and it opens up the draw very promisingly. Hopefully this will be the tournament she finally goes deep into.
Yeah, she has worn it awhile but I actually think she looks really good in this outfit. Then again for me Aleks would look great in a paper bag. (The hot pink one is very nice too but, seriously, I can't imagine anything not looking great on her. )
Well Aleks is into the final in Guangzhou. It is great that all Aleks' work and effort and all the improvements Aleks has been making the last few months are now bearing some fruit. A win tomorrow will put Aleks in the top 50 where she belongs.
Have to say, I know Aleks has lots of support both in this Serbian forum and in the General messages forum too. But now that Aleks is having her most successful week on the tour virtually everyone seems to have suddenly got very quiet. Strange. I don't now why that is. Maybe posters here are afraid of jinxing her by getting too excited or maybe after years of accepting Aleks as a player ranked around 100 this new improvement is a bit of a shock to the system and it is just a little hard to take in right away.
I do think however the way Aleks is playing is for real, and it is time to accept that Aleks is now a top 50 level player who is getting better and better by the day. And hey, isn't this what we have been waiting for? And isn't a little rejoicing in order?
Honestly, the way Aleks is playing right now, I am already very excited about her prospects for 2018.
She's definitely figured something out. A lot more aggression, her attacks are more consistent.
She always had tremendous athleticism in that little body, and her technique didn't have major flaws, she just couldn't harness it properly.
Forehand in particular, I think, has improved.
100% agree with you on each point. I think a lot of Aleks' improvement has been just figuring out how to utilise her skills better on the court. But there have also been some tangible improvements too. Her serve which has always had it's moments is stronger and more consistent, her court coverage which has always been a strength has been even more so lately but as you say, the biggest improvement has been the forehand. She has turned that shot into an often lethal weapon.
Too bad she couldn't win it, but let's hope these are the results she'll have more consistently, cementing herself as a top-30 player (I think is realistic), and then surely, she'll put herself in position to win titles.
So excited she made the final and played well. Hoping she has another good tourny this week !!
She is around 56 or so i believe in the live rankings. She is really setting herself up for a nice
run next year!!!!
Aleks started the tournament in Tashkent with an excellent performance. Against Hogenkamp, who has been playing very well herself and reached a semifinal last week, Aleks found it hard to break the Dutch players' serve in the 1st set although she threatened to do so frequently and had numerous bps. But as Aleks was absolutely dominant on serve this wasn't really a problem and when it came to the 1st set TB, Aleks played steady and one was always confident she would take her chances there, which she did, although it took her 3 set points to clinch the set. Hogenkamp having hung on in the 1st set to no avail, had nothing left in the second and Aleks was by then in complete control. A bagel was the inevitable result.
The three best things about today's match were: 1) Aleks looks a lot more eager and passionate than she did in the early stages last week. Although she did play well last week, she often looked tired and frustrated. Today she looked a lot more positive. 2) Aleks served extremely well. In 9 service games plus a TB, Aleks lost a total of just 10 points on serve. She won 80% of her service points and was never even remotely threatened on her serve. 3) Aleks' movement today was just insane. She really is covering the court as well as anyone in the game right now. It's a joy to watch.
I wasn't sure what to expect today. Aleks looked tired after her great effort in Guangzhou and the trip to Tashkent is a very long one. It is pretty common for players to lose in the 1st round after a week when they reached a final, and it is particularly common with players who haven't reached a lot of finals. Additionally, Hogenkamp has been playing well of late and looked capable of causing an upset if Aleks was off her game. So it is was great to see Aleks play this match with such determination, focus and eagerness. It was clear watching this match that despite all the success Aleks has had lately, she is still very hungry and wants more. That is really good to see.
