Re: Fight for Serbian #1

I think Serbia should just give up and go back to being one Yugoslavia. Then they would have a much better chance.

Serbia didn't give up. It's the the surrounding republics that gave up.

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Updated after Berlin QFs
Ivanovic survive another week at Serbian #1 and because JJ is Rome defending champion that means Ana will be Serbian #1 atleast next month, so next check-point will be week after Roland Garros, which will be interesting because Ana defending like 2007 runnerup 700 points (Jelena 450 for SF).

But today is still interesting day about rankings of Serbian players b/c Ivanovic will lose her #2 place if not win today Szavay and Dementieva. That is very important question about 10 days before French Open draw.

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

After defending her Rome title Jelena Jankovic is in better position to be Serbian #1 after Roland Garros b/c she defending "only" Semifinal and Ana is 2007 runnerup. So to stay at #1 after RG Ana needs better result in Paris than JJ.

But after Henin retire its actualy more interesting which Serbian Sensation will be after French Open 2008 WORLDS #1, not only Serbian .

Here is possible scenarios (btw i open one thread in GM about this subject):

Possible worlds #1 WTA player after French Open (and her RG/08 result and points):

Code:
Maria Sharapova RG/08 Winner 4666 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 Runnerup 4366 pts
Jelena Jankovic RG/08 Winner 4305 pts
Ana Ivanovic RG/08 Winner 4222 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 Semifinalist 4116 pts
-Svetlana Kuznetsova RG/08 Winner 4115 pts
Jelena Jankovic RG/08 Runnerup 4005 pts
Ana Ivanovic RG/08 Runnerup 3922 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 Quarterfinalist 3916 pts
-Svetlana Kuznetsova RG/08 Runnerup 3815 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 4th Rounder 3806 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 3rd Rounder 3756 pts
Jelena Jankovic RG/08 Semifinalist 3755 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 2nd Rounder 3726 pts
Ana Ivanovic RG/08 Semifinalist 3672 pts
Maria Sharapova RG/08 1st Round Loser 3668 pts

for any other options out of this Maria Sharapova must retire

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Jelena vs Ana Roland Garros semifinal will decide who will be probably WORLDS #1 player next week (not only Serbian)...

So... winner take it all...

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

There's a HUGE difference in points if someone were to win versus just making the Semifinals...

assuming SK maks the Finals...

Jelena Jankovic Win: 4305
Svetlana Kuznetsova RUP: 3815
Maria Sharapova 4th: 3806
Ana Ivanovic SF: 3672

That's almost 500 points ahead of Sveta and Ana, and more than 600 points ahead of Ana.

Ana Ivanovic Win: 4222
Svetlana Kuznetsova RUP: 3815
Maria Sharapova 4th: 3806
Jelena Jankovic SF: 3755

That's more than 400 points over Sveta and Maria, and almost 500 points over Jelena.

Venus Serena JJ Bethanie Vania Naomi
Petra S. Peng S. Zhang Su-Wei Vera Cici
Vesnina Sveta Crawford McHale Franny Zarina Sloane
Lepchenko Min Garbiñe

Kokkinakis Pospisil Coric Nishikori Berdych Huey Shapovalov
Sock F. Lopez Isner Murray Tiafoe Dmitrov Monfils Thiem Roanic Tsonga
--Praying for the return of carpet courts-- Good for the body and quick points!

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Can't wait for the match! I hope it will be a good one

I will also cheer for Dinara tomorrow (so that a Serbian girl gets world no.1 spot)
She was awesome in last two matches. But somehow I think that whoever wins Ana or Jelena, will have to fight for no.1 against Sveta in the finals

Good luck girls!
