WHAT !!! you have a friend that's a friend with Nadal, thats cool. I wish Spain was invited - but I cannot think of a HOT spanish girls atm , it would be so funny to see Vives play mixed with nadal but it will probably be Garrigues

Russia being the most powerfull country in womens tennis is bound to be invited as probably the second seed. but we'll see on Tuesday

Recent history has shown the organisers don't like to make many changes. Last year for example, no new country was invited that had never played.

Serbia haven't played for ages, so that's one change, and I reckon one more might be the maximum.

Russia have to be invited. They have the greatest depth in women's tennis, and providing Safin is fit or Davydenko is willing, they are certainties. I also feel USA are.

Matthias - I agree. Anna-Lena must be invited, and her and Tommy will give that a real shake. It's hard to see Anna-Lena getting beaten in doubles, then only her OR Tommy needs to win the singles.

Senorita - welcome fellow West Australian... and also, Nadal would be awesome, possibly with Medina Garrigues?

It would be great to see Nadal in Perth. The organizers started making a list of players they wanted back in June. Sharapova and Nadal were at the top of the list. Obviously, the Sharapova idea was dropped when she committed to Gold Coast. Sharapova was being enlisted to play this year but Myskina, as the top Russian woman at the time, thwarted that plan when she accepted her first priority invitation.

It would be interesting to watch Nadal play mixed doubles. If they can get Medina Garrigues to partner him, it should be exciting. She's improved a lot as a doubles player and he has given doubles a good crack, having played with Tommy Robredo and Feliciano Lopez, most notably, in Davis Cup. I would expect them to be seeded second behind a Russian team.

Due to them pursuing Sharapova, the quest was also on to secure the services of Safin. He was approached first, apparently, from what I read in the paper. He has loved playing in Perth the last couple of years and he'd be a fool to change his routine after successive Australian Open final appearances. Since Sharapova declined the invitation, I'd expect the organizers to ask Myskina again. Although she and Safin haven't teamed well together in mixed doubles, she's the only one I can picture saying yes to an invitation. She's a bigger star than Dementieva and Petrova in Russia, and especially in Perth. She also loves playing for Russia.

Slovaks, Aussies, Russians, Germans, Spaniards, Serbians and maybe Argentines. If any of those speculations come true, then it's shaping up to be a good Hopman Cup.

Kind regards

To sadly confirm what Danker said:
World No. 2 Rafael Nadal will play at the season-opening 400,000-dollar ATP Chennai Open in January, organizers said on Friday.

The teenage sensation confirmed his participation this week in the 11th edition of India's only ATP event to be held on the Nungambakkam stadium hard courts in the southern city of Chennai from January 2-8.

So now that he is out of Hopman... we need to consider other teams.

Regarding the Russian female player, an alternative to Myskina in my opinion is Svetlana Kuznetsova. She is great friends with Alicia Molik, and assuming Alicia plays, that MAY be a drawcard for her... but I agree, it will probably be Myskina.

Please, please invite Germany - I would to see Anna-Lena again, along with Misa Krajicek.

Ivanovic - great try with the email, but by the sounds of it, it will be revealed on the 11th, but not on the website until the 12th. But from memory, they said that last year and it came on the website early.

I just emailed a travel agent involved with the Cup to see if they know any players playing, doubt it, but it's worth a try.
