Let me speak for a moment about the LA crowds.....

So last night I arrived in time to see the beginning of Kuznetsova/Zvonareva. Me and about 10 other people, and needless to say, I was incredibly disappointed. However as the match continued and Vera continued to look more and more teary, the crowds starting truly streaming in. They were almost all Serena fans, but what would I have expected. And I realized, once Serena's match started that there was a fairly sizeable crowd and it just kept getting bigger. As usual with LA tennis, I was at first put off by people's lack of knowledge: "Venus plays later on right?". However, I quickly forgot about all this because, as the match enetered as third set (which it by no means should have as Nastya self destructed at 6-4 3-0) people began getting truly into the match. And, I have to say, if you get a crowd that gives a standing ovation to a drop shot, it cannot be a bad crowd. This was my high point with the crowd. However, they ALL left before Lindsay's match. I blame this entirely on the tournament organizers. You cannot have a match that begins after 10:30 local time on a weeknight and expect many people to stick around...and remember, LA sports fans never stay for anything. Though I have to say they didn't miss much except for the 18,000 deuce game at 6-0 4-1. So please, don't blame the LA fans, when their girl is playing, they are as great as any other fans in the world.

Yes,i cant know the crowd,i watched from tv.i think they looked great at match between S.Williams-Myskina...The arena is very big thats for sure...
But match times are terrible for me i woke up 03.20 and i missed the Davenport-Dementieva match,i had to go early in the morning.
But thats also not a good idea to bring a match time around 22.00 local time to that kind of crowd...

I think that tonight we will see whether the people leaving after Serena's match yesterday was a result of the time or the players. If the people from the Sharapova match today all left despite Serena playing next, then the organizers need to change the schedule. If the crowds stay, then it's obviously not about the timing, but instead just who is playing.

hunger, desire, fire..........
stength, power, precision.........
talent, court sense, smartness........
no i am not talking about a racket or a squirrel, i am talking about the former and future number 1..............
martina hingis!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck Justine Henin Hardenne, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Mary Pierce, and any of my other favorites that I might have forgotten about at this moment.

It was kinda sad that everyone left for Davenport's match, but it gave me a chance to see her and Dementieva close up... I moved up right behind Elena's coach.
Do you know the name of the WTA guy who got hit in the head with a ball during Davenport's match? I remember seeing him on the tennis channel but I don't remember what his job was in the WTA.

That would be Jim Fuhse most likely. Larry Scott is the CEO and he has dark thinning hair.

hey i was RIGHT behind olga, i talked to her even. and my friend and i were laughing so hard about that dude. perhaps we were next to eachother man!

anyways, the tournament did a terrible job of letting fans know that there was a match after featuring davenport. i really think they should have had that announcer man (who wore the same black suit EVERY SINGLE DAY) be like "hey dude, #1 player in the world davenport is playing next. stay and give her a crowd to play for. see why she is awesome. shes from la too." but no. i think it might have shown that there was an upcoming match on the scoreboard or something overhead and thats pretty much it.

were you the guy who asked olga about players having to buy their own plane tickets or something like that? if so, i think i was sitting 2 seats to your right. oh, and my boyfriend and i couldn't stop laughing about the guy (Jim Fuhse?) getting hit in the head either... he acted like it didn't even happen. every time i looked at him after that i'd start laughing again. poor guy...
