Raymond def. Safina 6-1 3-6 6-3
Not sure if that score was right, but it's close. Lisa was having major issues with the UEs in the second set. But in the third set, Dinara had a total meltdown and end.
Hantuchova/Safina def. Sharapova/Kirilenko 7-6 (9) 6-3
I got here at 3-2 in the first set. What a match. Some of the most amazing net play I've seen from both teams. Hantuchova/Safina had five set points in the tiebreak before finally converted. Sharapova/Kirilenko had one set point in the tiebreak on their serve, but Safina came up with an amazing volley to save it. The third set was close until Safina consolidated their break, and that was pretty much it. Best match of the day.
Washington def. Shaughnessy 6-4 6-4
Mashona will be top 40 if she keeps up this play. Her serve is average, backhand above average, but the forehand is absolutely amazing. She was hitting so many winners off of that. Her serve wasn't that strong, but she was setting up points very, very well with the serve and forehand. She didn't face one break point. Meghann looks like she has recovered from her injury. She had some really big serves, but it was inconsistent. Her movement was very poor.
Petrova def. Black 6-1 6-4
