Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

Eastbourne

1st round: BYE
2nd round: Putintseva or Qualifier
3rd round: Cibulkova/Ostapenko/Kasatkina

Grass surely is not the best surface for Putintseva, hope she can win that one, after that it surely wonŽt be easy, weŽll see, good luck!

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

lost 62 46 57 to Bondarenko

well, what to say? another choke from Sveta, had the 53* lead in 3rd set, 5 MPs, 3 of them on her own serve at *54...no comment

good that she will be seeded at Wimbledon but she really needs a good draw there, I really donŽt have much hope for a good result there...

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

Wimbledon

[18] Stephens - [PR] Peng
Qualifier/LL - Tatishvili
[wc] Moore - Van Uytvanck
Wozniacki - [13] Kuznetsova

Adventure on grass will be even shorter than expected, I fear, canŽt see her winning against Woz on grass although Woz herself is far from impressive in general, good luck!

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

Rivalry continues, too bad it had to be in the first round of Wimbledon.

Sveta is 5-6 against Woz, but 0-2 on grass.

Still gluck to her!

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

Sveta won 75 64

She started good and aggressive with the break but Woz came back to 2-2 and then Sveta fucked up 3 BPs in a row at 2-2, incl one easy FH UE but the serve was really working today and she had no bigger problems to hold then further until she broke again at 5-5 and then served it out easily,
2nd set she played great tennis mostly, Wozniacki herself just without any weapons, really harmless as often but Sveta really had to stay aggressive and avoid stupid UEs to win that as it got close agian from 51* 30-0 to 5-4 as Sveta got tight and too passive and then Woz made 12 points in a row before Sveta served it out to love!

Good match, should give her some confidence for the next rounds, Tara Moore next, good draw, should win that for sure and then probably Stephens, who has a great draw herself, but totally beatable also but I am careful with Sveta on grass, however she definitely should reach 3rd round now!!

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

Wow, Kuzzie

Unexpected, but really shows how low Woz has sunk, more than anything

WC Tara Moore is next. Tara is a very good grasscourt player, but Kuzzie may be a level too high for her.

Gluck to Kuzzie!

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

beat Moore 61 26 63
I watched parts of 2nd set and 3rd set.
Sveta was too passive in general, serve was not as good as against Woz and that made it tough for her.
Moore has a nice FH and put a lot of pressure on Sveta but Sveta got more aggressive in 3rd set again, MooreŽs BH is not really great but the slice still troubled Sveta here and there but in the end it was enough for Moore today, just too consistent and solid!

Stephens or Minella next, both beatable, Stephens does not seem to be in great shape but weŽll see, 4th round at Wimbledon would be great!

Sveta

Back in the third round for the first time in 5 years!

Sloane is next. Bookends Sloane 2-all, but this is their first meeting on grass.

Gluck to Sveta!

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

Sveta won 67 62 86 against Stephens

Sveta winning a close match at a slam, finally
She was down 2-5 in 3rd set, after wasting a 5-3 lead herself in 1st set, typical rollercoaster!
SvetaŽs last service game was horror, she looked totally tight, no 1st serves and passive pushing but it somehow was enough, she needs to play more aggressive in general for sure.
Anyway, great fight and no perssure now against Serena on grass, I really donŽt expect anything on that surface, hope she just can play a good match and win more games than in Rome.

4th round at Wimbledon is really great for Svetlana!!

Sveta

I didn't think she would do it!

Best appearance here since 2008

Why are we the only ones cheering, Michael. Where are all her fans

Now passes Petra, and so close the the Top 10 again!

Now Serena. Almost as bad a pigeon to her as Maria 3-9, but did beat her at Miami this year. First meeting on grass.

Gluck to Sveta!

Svetlik I still can't believe it

what a week on grass (long not short )

today it will be, well, "tough" but I'm so happy and proud with the way she plays and with results....

that hug on the net and request for applause to Sloane, it was a classy act and great sportmanship as well

no worries, all fans are cheering for Sveta and "live" her matches

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

lost 57 06

She served or the set at *54 but couldnŽt make it, hit a DF also and you just have to play your best tennis in such moments against Serena if you want to have a chance and win it, anyway, after that and the short rain delay Sveta was without any chance, Serena 43 winner/14 UEs, Sveta (8/6), zero winners in 2nd set, was just impossible then to do anything.

Good tournament for Sveta on grass, 4th round was more than i expected, she still plays a good season so far in general, weŽll see how it goes on hardcourt.

Sveta. Heard that Serena was just unplayable in that second set!

Great tournament and on the cusp of returning to the Top 10

Re: Short Adventure on Grass! Eastbourne and Wimbledon

yup, Vesnina beat Cibulkova and Sveta will be No. 10 next week for sure (unless Vesnina wins the title, which is really unlikely)

no clue right now when Sveta was Top 10 for the last time
