WTA Points for Olympics

How many points are being awarded for ranking purposes?

Will the Olympics be worth more than a Tier 1?

That's off course if the WTA doesn't pull back their decision to award these points. They weren't happy with the fact that several players (Anca Barna, Marlene Weingartner in singles and Els Callens in doubles) weren't allowed to participate by their national olympic comité. The WTA threatened that they would drop the points if these players weren't allowed to start. In the men's event there was the same problem with the refusal of Raemon Sluiter.

Well if you win going through top 30 players after the first round and then top 16 and top 8 before hitting the number 1 and 2 or 3 you are going to get a nice lot of points. 450+ points should be on which could sort out number 1 for you.

yeah, I agree those points are too LOW if you can see all the great players are competing for their country

if they are really competing for their country then points shouldn't matter at all.

God, Mauresmo is almost assured no. 1. Venus is almost certainly going to stop Henin, and Mauresmo has pretty much no one who can beat her before the finals.

Well...I doubt Venus can beat Justine, but we'll see

Sprem is the dangerous opponent for Mauresmo at bottom half

Pathetic if Mauresmo reaches Number 1 without a GS.

It is odd. If say Myskina wins she has to go through Eleni who was top 20. Then Francesca who was twice a GS QF player and then Justine and then probably Momo. Its a GS field in a week for less than 40% of the points. Nearly all the top players are there and they are selected partly by ranking. The only thing missing is the first round against some one ranked from 33- wherever.
