Pathetic Gamesmanship From Davenport

Just when Dementieva was appearing to get back in the match what was Davenport complaining about? As far as I could see she had no reason to waste time approaching the umpire. Then she gets the benefit of some dodgy calls. I doubt she will but it would be great if Dementiva turned this around.

I agree, 3rd game of the 2nd set was a simple mindbreaker from Lindsay ...
no sportsmanship, Linds

i disagree. i thought the calls were questionable and it was fine that she was approaching the umpire, especially at such a crucial moment when she risked losing the momentum of the match. I don't approve of gamesmanship (and I don't like the term, it gives an almost acceptable tone to the concept), but questioning a call is not gamesmanship. Taking a bathroom break is not gamesmanship. This is just tennis, and all Lindsay was doing was letting Lynn Welch know she made a bad call.

I have to say she was getting kind of irritating in that second set...

Don't just about all American players complain?? Also, I think that one of the reasons that Davenport complained was to break the groove of Elena. Soo many shots that Davenport hit were long, yet the line people said nothing. Just another example of biasim in the US. When Elena complained she was usually right, and so with bad calls, biased lines people, biased umpires, and poor sportsmanship, Elena lost the match.

Both players did complain a bit and Dementieva never said that it was wrong for Lindsay to have questioned some of the calls. She is only human people.

Justine's always got the fight in her

Serena's always got it. Never underestimate the heart of a Champion

Elena is treating this very well, and I have much more respect for her than I do for some of her fans...

I'd appreciate if I wasn't lumped in w/all those "American" players...Until you are in that situation, I don't think it's your place to judge...

if a player thinks a ball is out its their right to ask about it..elena herself had a couple of chats with the umpire in the same game.....its part of the game. if you want to complain about gamesmanship then you need to look at a certain belgian player who constantly takes advantage of it.

What about Elena taking an injury break at important moments when nothing is wrong? Thats more gamesmanship than just questioning calls!

If Elena's mental state is so fragile that she can't take a player legitimstely questioning calls with the umpire then she should not be playing this great game of tennis.

However, Elena seemed to dea with the situation perfectly well and I have not heard her complain about it being gamesmanship, which it wasn't.

They were both questioning the line calls, especially the guy on the baseline on the one end. He missed shot after both players. The crowd was flipping out at all the bad calls and actually applauded the guy finally getting replaced by a new crew. It was pathetic. As far as Elena's injury time out, she was hit in the leg by an overhead of Lindsay's the game before, so it wasn't like she just took an injury time out for no reason.
