Wozniak (CAN) def. Tiene (BRA) 6-3 6-3
Pelletier (CAN) def. Alves (BRA) 6-4 6-3
Tiene/Alves (BRA) def. Dubois/Marois (CAN) 6-2 6-2

It was a first time for Dubois and Marois together, so I guess the loss is understandable. They probably wanted to give Stéphanie some experience. Great job girls Now go and win your next tie and the playoff

Very encouraging, great singles performances for Marie-Eve and Aleks

Good to see Stephanie got a chance to play too

"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

I saw Marois play doubles at the 50K Pittsburgh...she was a little out of shape, but I was impressed with her court sense...she was a very good doubles player.

Canada secures Fed Cup Playoffs spot

Tennis Canada

4/22/2004

PORTO SEGURO, Brazil (TC) - The Canadian Fed Cup team continues to roll in American Zone Group I action, defeating host country Brazil 2-1 Thursday to finish in the top spot in its pool and advance to Saturdays playoff round against El Salvador. Canada still has to play one more round robin match against Chile on Friday.

In the first match of the day, rookie Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., won her third straight match with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Carla Tiene, while Canadas No.1 player, Marie-Eve Pelletier of Repentigny, Que., guaranteed a Canadian victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Maria Fernanda Alves. In a meaningless doubles match, Tiene and Fernanda Alves stopped Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Melanie Marois of Ste-Foy, Que., 6-2, 6-2.

"Our girls played some solid tennis today the Brazilians are tough opponents," said team Captain Rene Simpson. "Were happy that we met our objective to finish first in the pool, now weve got to work on our second, which is to qualify for the World Group Playoff."

With the win, Canada secured a berth in this weekends play-off round. The top two teams from the play-off will advance to a World Group Playoff in July.

My Forever Fav: Jelena Dokic

Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic

Mélanie is a solid doubles player when she plays with a regualr partner. That'S why her team with Augustus worked that much. She is a very veery hard hitter, and clay really is her first surface, and it is the same with dubois. I didn't expect them to win vs Tiene and Alves who are experienced and good clay court players!

BTW, I am still wondering why Alekz is always playing great on clay. The few times i saw her, she played very hard, with almost no spin, and was a bit out of shape. Wasn't she called the mini-lindsay
