Tie preview

This is the second meeting in Fed Cup between these two nations. Spain won their only previous encounter in World Group Final in 1998 in Geneva. Fielding the most successful Fed Cup player in the event's history, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario along with Conchita Martinez, Spain looked the favourite going into the Final despite Switzerland being able to count on the-then world No. 1, Martina Hingis. The match-up turned into an epic encounter and it took the deciding fifth doubles rubber for Spain to edge out victory.

i really don't see manu playing singles in this tie. as much as a like her i just think it hands to 2 rubbers to spain with her current singles form. although myriam is unpredictable i also think she is much more capable of beating anyone in the spanish team if she can fire early and not let them into the match.

switzerland 5-0

Patty def Sanchez-Lorenzo 6-4, 2-6, 6-3
Myriam def Martinez 6-3, 6-3
Patty def Martinez 6-2, 6-2
Myriam def Marrero 6-4, 2-6, 6-4

Martina/Manu def Vivi/Marta 6-2, 6-3
