Why is Lindsay always overlooked?

Ok, I know she likes it that way but here is a player who has achieved 3 Grand Slams, an Olympic Gold and Number one status. Without injuries she would have been No 1 much longer. Now, in possibly her last year she is through to a Wimbledon semi final without breaking sweat and the story is all Sharapova! When Lindsay wins on Saturday you can bet the story will revolve around her devastated opponent. Give credit where credit is due Lindsay Davenport is a class act.

Linsday is a very quiet player... Times that we can read some of her comments or hear of her private life are few and far between, compared to Williams sisters or...Sharapova. This is something difficult to understand I know. Lindsay achieved alot of things... But let me tell you something: You know when you watch tennis on television, there are always some images of players in the past years for introduction at the beginning. You know what? At Roland-Garros, we saw some images of Navratilova winning in 1982 or 1984. Navratilova won twice in Paris, which is good! But my Arantxa won it 3 times, and we never see some images of her past success! That makes me angry!!! She did so much for tennis! Hell0o0o0o she has been ranked #1 too ! lol Those are things we cannot control. But let me tell you something. Up to now, Sharapova acheived nothing very impressive...She has good results...Like Mirjana Lucic! Now what is happening Mirjana!? Don't know... Good results at a young age, recognized as a future star, talking about her all around. Now!? Nothing! Daniela Hantochova!? Same thing! (except she seems to come back...)

Oh I forgot something...An example of the same situation in men's tennis: Do you think Tim Henman has great results and is a very good player? We rarely hear about him... He did the semis at Rolang-Garros...which is impressive...but people preferred to talk about the 3 others semi-finalists!

I must admit I often feel miffed about the way Lindsay gets left out and sometimes I get quite cross about it. They have practically ignored her this Wimbledon but now she is in the semis its a bit hard for them to do. Johnny Mac and Tracey Austin have said good things about her which is quite pleasing.

Sharapova is obviously a talent but as you say what has she done compared to Lindsay. She is only 17 so we can't expect her to have done too much but the way they go on about her really drives me mad. She has 3 titles to her name. But nothing will change things and Lindsay likes to go unnoticed as she is quite an unassuming person - thats why I like her so much. When Lindsay holds up the Venus Rosewater dish on Saturday, thats when they will HAVE to notice her.

GO GO GO LINDSAY

Well, I want Serena to win this by beating Lindsay in the final, but I would still be happy if Lindsay could win her fourth Slam. She IS a class act and a great player. Injuries have hurt her very much in the last four years.

Thanks for everyone's comments. It was a serious question. I think more so in womens tennis than any other sport the media, maybe even the public, want celebities to be playing out a real life soap opera. This means that the talented players who for one reason or another do not achieve or more likely want a high media profile get relatively ignored. Based purely on achievment Lindsay Davenport ( there are others ) has been short changed over the years in terms of recognition and publicity. On the flip side this probably means that Lindsay has led a relatively happy life, happy people don't make good celebrities!
