Navratilova asks for 'wildcard' to singles

According to the tournament website, through translation it is saying martina has asked to a wild card into singles here.

I think she said she had didn't she in an interview earlier this month, she said she would like some of her friends who live nearby to come and see her play.

She must have friends all over the world now though!

I think she should play a full singles schedule in 2004. If Alexandra Stevenson gets wildcards all the time, then Martina Navratilova certainly should.

Mirjana Lucic : Australian Open doubles champ and back in Top 100

Jelena Jankovic : US Open finalist 2008 and World No. 1

Jennifer Capriati : 3 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1

Rafael Nadal : 10 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1

It would be nice for Navratilova to play some singles again.

What is the obsession with clay court singles? She needs to get on to grass to win some matches.

I think former grand slam winners are allowed an unlimited amount of wildcards, aren't they?

Agreed Samm. She's a natural grass courter. Though the Wimbly courts have been slowed down That's why can't see T. Henman winning Wimbly, only a small chance if he boycots RG. Hopefully Martina will ask a WC for Eastbourne/Wimbledon.

She wants 40,000 euros as well.

Tournament is still deciding on if she worth the investment, at present it is 50-50 she gets the wildcard.
