That was a great effort by Lucie in winning Midland last week! She had to face quality opposition the whole way: Hampton, Tatishvili, Lisicki, Pervak and Falconi. She's definitely riding the wave, because she into the semis this week in Memphis too...
A couple of articles about her win in Midland below:
Lucie is into the 3rd round of IW after a 3 set win over Dulgheru
I think that Peng will be tough to beat. Shuai is going to be Shuai; I expect her to be super-solid from the baseline, and she'll be intent on making less errors than Lucie. Lucie will have to be really focused for this one, but she can do it.
I was a bit worried that Lucie might be rusty after the layoff, but she did just fine today. Next up is Gisela. Lucie beat her earlier this year on the hard, but facing her on clay poses a different challenge. I'm looking forward to watching it.
So Lucie made it to the final, but she wasn't able to take home the trophy... Her run in Barcelona was still pretty impressive though: scored her first win over Benesova, her first against Errani and she beat Dulko again. Last but not least, she's earned a new, career-high ranking of 52, and the Top 40 beckons.
