Dementieva's Serve is Catching Up With Her

In the second round of Ameila, defending champ Elena Dementieva, is already down a break against someone ranked outside of the top 50, and has already served a double! Will this dismal serve of hers spell the end of her top-10 dreams, and place her on the outskirts of top tennis, until she can fix her serve, and serve to the level of her ranking?

I think some people are really starting to be obsessed with Elena's serve. She was broken once, it's not like she didn't hold serve during all the match

Lizchris is right. After being up 40-15 on your serve, a top ten player should be able to hold. Alicia Molik, just finished off her match, and wasn't broken even ONCE! That's how a top ten player should play, and I think that because of top ten players like Dementieva, who gets broken lots of times in lots of matches, and other players who have high rankings, but don't play to the level of their ranking, give the WTA a huge loss in depth and personal credibilty. Even Serena, in her match against Dementieva only lost two games, but she was BROKEN twice. This is the reason that without Serena and Venus to give the game excitement (family drama), the game is boring, because everyone knows that women's tennis is a game of breaks, and until other top players, besides the Williamses, Davenport and the Beligians can consistently hold serve, and always play to the level of their ranking, the WTA is seriously in trouble!

Dementieva has always had a rinky-dink serve. Why the obsession now? Regardless of her serve in general, she DOES have a shoulder injury and it's kindah hard to serve with a sore shoulder! Unless, of course, she's acting like she's got a sore shoulder?

She's already got 7 double faults in the first set, that's ridiculous. I mean, I love her ground game and she could be a real contender if she'd do something with her serve; it's just a shame that she won't.

Mary Pierce-----Monica Seles-----Martina Hingis

If she has a short shoulder, then she shouldn't have played the tournament because she will only make it worse.

5-4, my bet is she'll still win the first set and the match.

Exclamation

5-4, but she will probably double fault the set away.
