I flew low at about 90 mph to get to IW just in time for the All Access Hour at noon. They had it over in this restaurant on site called the Garden Club. We got there and waited a few minutes (of course!) and then a bunch of players came in. Myskina, Zvonareva, Dokic, Kuznetsova, Suarez (she's a top 8 seed here...how weird is that?) and Petrova. I was like, um, where are the top players?? Turns out they were doing TV interviews outside, so pretty soon Kim C., Justine and Lindsay all come in as well. Can't really say as to what they were talking about....I just floated around taking pics. My man, Ed, from OTL interviewed most of them.
Paolo Suarez was delightful....really came across nice.
Kuznetsova looks much prettier off court in casual clothes.
Dokic varied between bored and annoyed the first few minutes, but when the TV camera turned on for a Tennis Channel spot, she perked right up!
Poor Vera Z. had no one at her table at the beginning, but they started crowding around her table after a while.
Nadia Petrova seemed to give a lot of one-on-one interviews. Very polite.
Justine came in and was swamped. Ed and I agreed she has been coached well on handling the press better than she did say a year ago. She handled herself well.
Kim held court at another table. She was very animated in her responses and quite cheerful (I know, what a surprise!)
Lindsay is just Lindsay. Comfortable, joking a bit, giving well thought out answers. At one point she had Matt Cronin on one side and Jon Wertheim on the other. The poor dear
She handled it just fine though. She looks great.
After the AA hour, I made the rounds on the practice courts. Dani was out hitting with Myskina. She looks much healthier, IMO. Nigel was there with her.
Also out on the courts were Conchita Martinez and Maria Vento-Kabchi
Anne Kremer (Welcome back!),
Els Callens, Jennifer Hopkins, K-Lina
and Talaja, Tarabini and Dragomir, Vera Z and Meghann Shaughnessy,
Tim Henman and Todd Martin, Taylor Dent, Sebastian Grosjean and Arazi, Roger Federer, James Blake and Dominic Hrbaty.
A particular wonderful court featured Nicolas Lapentti, Robbie Ginepri, Gaston Gaudio and Thomas Enqvist (all but Thomas shirtless). Oh my. Did I mention they were sweaty?
Around the dining room I saw Carlos Moya, Gaston Gaudio, Canas, Tarabini, Dragomir and her ADORABLE son, Wayne Ferreira, Anne Kremer, Chladkova (STILL with the ugly hair), Petrova, Shiavone, Obata, Maggie Maleeva, Tommy Haas (Rowr!), Karlovic (TALL dude) and Paradorn.
Dragomir's son seems to be the new mascot of the WTA. Practically every player who passed by had to stop and play with him.
I'll post more tomorrow if I can remember more. I only saw a bit of the Golovin-Asagoe match, so I can't help much on match reports. I'll be more into the swing of things when I go back on Friday.
