The last foreign player to win this was Brenda. I miss her.

It's too bad that "Nagyova Jr." Sharapova will probably win this year.

Pointblank, if you knew the circumstances under which the tournament ended up in Memphis you would be sad and upset as well.

Umm you're so confused ok , this is what happened. Sara Fornacari bought the event from ProServ in 1989 she founded her own agency SportsPlus so for 11 years she ran the tournament from her own agency and with much success I must say. In 2001 Bob Funk, Oklahoma City's Donald Trump wanted in on the success so he wanted to have Express Personnell( one of his companies) as the presenting sponsor so Mrs Fornacari agreed, to have them as the presenting sponsor but she still had the rights to the tournament. After having the most successful year in 2001 where over 30,000 people attended the event( More than attended the season ending championships in Munich, 2001) Bob Funk sued Sara Fornacari for the tournament rights saying that she had promised him a percentage of the tournament ownership, no contract was ever found promising him that. Instead a judge ordered that she sell the tournament rights in order to avoid further dispute.
So the guy in Memphis bought the rights and now you all have the tournament up there. This was going to be a tier II everyone always talked aout how much they loved playing here. It was sad really how it demised so quickly. so no, Pointblank it wasn't that Memphis is so great that the tournament just had to move there because it wanted a tourney.
