Maybe she can have her own cheering thread now she's starting to show really promising results?
Lea is still 15, but will turn 16 next week (born September 22, 1999 in Zagreb) and she's now the top Croatian junior!
She's at a CHR of 118 this week.
She has made 1 final (at G3 Wilson - Tivoli Trophy Timisoara in Romania in July; she was the 3rd seed there, beat 2nd seed Lara Salden in SF and lost to top seed Salma Cadar in the final, 4 & 4
) and 4 more SFs (at G4 Krka Cup in Slovenia in January, at G2 Ex Pilsen Wilson Cup in Czech Republic in July, and in the last weeks at G2 Hungarian Open and G2 ITF International Pancevo in Serbia) so far this year.
She notably got wins over Mirjam Bjorklund in Czech Republic, Nika Shytkouskaya, Jodie Anna Burrage and Ioana Minca (the top seed, a Top 100 player, thrashed 2 & 2 by Lea
) in Hungary, Isolde De Jong, and Ioana Minca a 2nd time (top seed again, beaten 6-3 2-6 6-3 this time
) in Serbia.
She's only tried playing a pro tournament twice so far, with the help of MDWCs: 10K Bol in July last year, where she drew the 2nd seed Bianca Botto in R1 and retired after she lost the 1st set 3-6
, and 10K Bol in April this year, where she lost in R1 again to (7)Lenka Jurikova (a former Top 200 player), 0 & 2.
She also played U16 European Junior Championships in Moscow this summer. She had a bye in R1, but flopped to Kristina Miletic in R2, 3-6 6-3 1-6.
It was a flop because she had made the G3 final in Romania the previous week, and SFs at the G2 in Czech Rep two weeks before.
Anyways, hope she end the year inside of the Top 100, and hopefully next year we'll see her Slam debuts. Ajmo!
