Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread! - Volume 2

I've been busy all day, but wanted to drop in to say congrats Ajla.

That really came out of nowhere. I didn't expect her to win, let alone in straight sets vs. Aga. This is the best match I've ever seen her play. at her variety and patient point construction. And I definitely underestimated her on red clay. I should've known better after she beat Schiavone in straight sets.

Now it's for real points.. One more win and she'll be ranked #41, 2 wins and she's #30 and seeded at Wimbledon.
Matches that could really turn her career.

Of course Ajla is underdog but if she plays well she has a chance!

Well, Ajla hasn't been around the WTA (or above) level events for that long, so no wonder they're all thinking Carla is the only possible winner today. And of course, CSN's playing style is what gives them another reason - she is capable of playing very solid, defence-based tennis and hold her level for a very long time, causing substantial problems for her opponents. Particularly big hitters and especially on clay, but on all other surfaces as well (think, Lucic last year in Wimbledon).

Of course she can also get into bad streaks like everybody else and have a lousy day too (goes without saying), but I don't think people who don't know Ajla well enough have a good idea of just how well she can counter Carla today. Assuming she is as focused as two days ago. Guess she'll have to show them...

I really hope this RG will be a turning point for Ajla, and by that I mean in a way she perceives herself on court and believes in herself. Would be the best reward she could've hoped for.

Good luck Ajla
